I'm really genuinely shocked. I was kinda going into this album expecting it to be a lot less concise and good compared to Volume Alpha, but what I got instead is a whole different experience, that's still distinctly Minecraft. While Volume Alpha is more built around that classic minecraft sound and feeling playing in survival mode as a beautifully concise, this is built around the extra tracks that make up the rest of the soundtrack, from things like credits and menu themes, the music discs, creative mode and nether music, and more, which was a really pleasant surprise!
As a result, this album feels so diverse in its styles, taking you into a whole new world with so much flip flopping between different atmospheres and emotions. It might not be quite as consistent/cohesive as Alpha sure, but this is just as much fun to listen to, if not more fun. Volume Alpha might be the more nostalgic and beautiful album, but I actually think this one is even better, and has a lot more to the songs than the Volume Alpha (this is not a dig at the original though, that album would not have worked as well without its simplicity. This album shines through its complexity while that one shines through its simplicity.)
The highlights on this album for me are the music discs, and the nether music. The nether songs are so menacing yet beautiful, and are a perfect fit for the haunting world of the nether. The music discs, while not all ones I love, are a lot of fun to hear and provide a really good variety for everyones tastes. Except Stal. I'm afraid of Stal. Also gotta give a shoutout to "The End" for being a stunning medley of so many tracks feeding into the desolate yet exciting feeling of being at The End.
As much as I love Lena Raine's music for modern minecraft, there's a certain feeling that C418's music evokes that has not and probably never will be replicated. Every song here is gorgeous in its own way (even my least favorites) and is just so... minecraft. Absolute peak. Also, Aria Math is the best song to ever come out of Minecraft.
