Fatoumata Diawara released a really good album here.
My personal highlights are 'Djanne' and 'Tcheba'. Some songs are a bit weaker than the others ('Farana', 'Tati Bakary' and 'Djo'), but they are still decent and not worth skipping at all, which speaks to the high quality of the release.
Overall, this is my favorite album of her yet.
This could've been really good, instead this is basically just the "I'll f*cking do it again" meme.
It's unfortunate because I can constantly hear how good the songs could've been had they chosen not to go down the autotune path again. I hoped that they'd move back towards more natural singing after "Like All Before You", but those hopes were unfortunately misplaced.
Still, despite great efforts, "Russisan Coney Island" is a really good ... read more
What a frustrating album.
I really like the instrumentation on some of the songs but the autotune just ruins for me. '7 Horses' kinda grew on me. Aside from that, every song is a skip aside from some standout moments, though even those don't manage to save any of the songs. How unfortunate, I still had hope for this album.
Hope they'll learn to make better use of the autotune in the future, if at all.
After hearing Paris Paloma's 'Narcissus' and 'Labour' I've been quite excited for a full-length release. Was it worth the wait?
Well, the album definetely is a pleasant listen and it has numerous great songs, it unfortunately also does have a few generic, almost bland sounding songs making the album feel a bit bloted.
The highlights for me are 'his land', 'labour', 'last woman on earth' and 'the warmth'. Those are the songs ... read more
I thought I had already listened to Peng's discography but I somehow missed this.
The most impressive aspect of this album how unique and recognizable Peng's music is. His voice, flow and approach to songs is very unique, especially considering that this seems to be his first project.
That being said, I didn't enjoy this album. Regarding the lyrics, it's unclear what he intends to be taken serious and what is just a joke / philosophical nonesense. While this is clearly on ... read more
The consensus about this album seems to be that it's close to perfect and I can certainly see why people love snging its praises so much.
The production is beautiful, Kendrick rapps like there is no tomorrow on some songs, the songwriting's good, and all that on a concept album.
However, a lot of the songs just didn't click for me. A lot of the songs are interesting to listen to maybe once, but I don't feel like going back to them.
Which makes this album one of those cases where I am ... read more
Dreamy release with some highlights.
Best favorite songs: Get Well Soon, Falls du dich fragst, Jeden Sonntag
Not my favorite: Erst wenn ich fall, Immer dann, wenn du mich brauchst
This seems to be a very loved album and I think I can see why. It's very unique and I've never heard anything quite like it.
Its uniqueness/weirdness is also why I can't quite get into it. While it makes for an interesting listening experience, there isn't much reason for me to return to this album. A lot of the things that people seem to love about this album seems standoffish to me and that's ok.
This album is a clear cut to Tua's former work. No longer black and grey, this album is bright and colourful.
The production remains excellent, even if it is way poppier / more mainstream than before.
This album very much feels like a warm evening during a summer vacation where you reflect on your life and realize that you're happy in a comfortable, if less exciting place.
Quality-wise, the songs on this album are very consistent, with highlights in 'Mehr Sein', 'Echte Leben', 'Herr Aber ... read more
First of all: the rating seems harsher than I feel about this album.
The reason is that all the issues that I have with Cohen's music (monotony, little variety within a song) gets amplified on this album even more due to the length of the songs and the soft instrumentalisation. All that turns this album to something that is really good at putting someone to sleep. I am not saying this to be mean (it's not even necessarily a bad thing if that's what you're after), I genuinely caught myself ... read more
Just another Taylor Swift album
This album has a lot of negative drama surrounding it and I don't really know where it comes from.
It doesn't feel very different from any other TS album. None of the songs are particularly unpleasant. The album doesn't really have any highlights except for maybe 'Who's Afraid of Little Old Me' (I kinda liked that one). But I also can't say I particularly disliked anything. It's fine.
Which begs the question: why the drama? Is it the hype? Mismanaged ... read more
Sad & beautiful, but also monotonous
The lyrics on this album are hauntingly beautiful and I'm convinced that you'll be able to get more out of them on multiple listens.
However, where the songs fall short to me - even those that I liked - is on the musical side.
While everything is played well and the instrumentalisation sets the mood really well, I don't think it goes beyond that. The music and Cohen's voice are, while pleasant, quite monotonous. Most of the time, Cohen keeps one melody ... read more
Calm and relaxing
The entire album has a very calm and relaxing atmosphere. There's little variety in the energy and vibe between the songs. While that means that the songs sound a little similar to each other, it also means that the album is able to hold the same atmosphere throughout, which helps make it such a relaxing experience.
So Long Goodbye
Sum 41 have been one of the first bands that I listened to growing up, so they have a very special place in my heart. While I initially clocked out between Underclass Hero and Screaming Bloody Murder, I revisited all their albums (including those I didn't listen to initially) when it was announced that they're disbanding.
A lot of their later music felt quite samey to me and like they were recycling some of their old ideas in places. While their new stuff isn't necessarily ... read more
