Van Halen's debut album is the game changer of the game changers.
Never before had a guitar sounded like this. Eddie Van Halen's sharp guitar juggling acts make David Lee Roth's screeching over the top vocals bearable and even likeable. The rhythm section is also top notch.
Although the album is generally perceived as frontloaded, truth is there are no bad songs here and the deep-cuts are all growers that make this album a consistent hard-rock masterpiece.

There are several problems with this album the biggest one being the hype and expectations. The band getting a more guitar-oriented bluesy approach does not help those craving a replica of their debut album. The band sounds too self-indulgent at times and the songs feel shallow.
