Great album. I feel like I cannot fully appreciate this album yet, as this genre is new to me (so No Rating). However, the Tiny Desk concert for this album is fantastic and helped me understand why people love Bad Bunny and this album.
This album showcases Coldplay's full potential, capturing their powerful and unique early sound. For me, it's a great example of how you can enjoy part of a band's discography without needing to embrace their entire catalog (or label them as just another mainstream act.).
Don't let the fact these songs are "B-sides" misdirect you. The first leg of the songs are so great that it makes you wondered why they were not put on the album.
A guy walks into a bar... a common joke setup with an unknown punchline. This feeling of the unexpected and yet familiar is envisioned nicely in this album. It has a nice balance between alt-pop, rock and some disco.
Their first album that rightfully made them famous. What I noticed when relistening the album is that the songs are simple and catchy. Easy to get into and enjoy.
An entertaining album to listen to with good songs. However, it doesn't innovate much. If you already like the Strokes, you will like this album as well.
The album itself is a nice relaxing mix of songs to listen to. However this album suffer a bit from having some truly good songs like Soon We'll be Found, mixed between 'alright' songs.
It is a mix of strong songs and less memorable song. The strongest songs in album order are: Bird Set Free, Cheap Thrills, Move Your Body, The Greatest. The Greatest specifically is very nice uplifting note to end on, contrasting Jesus Wept.
A very coherent album with a strong energetic opening half, followed by a slower and more sensual second part. It just flows greatly from one song to the next one
This album gives off the best idea of their unique style/sound: Sleezy, playfully and dirty.
Their best album. Unlike their other album, where deeper messages or problematic issues are usually hidden between sleezy and playfully sound and lyrics, this album mostly forgoes the flairs and comes in hard. It was a difficult time for Josh Homme, and the only way to express it was by being direct. No flairs around it.
The biggest highlight is the flow of the 3 songs, Fairweather Friends into Smooth Sailling into I Appear Missing:
It starts by sharing the frustration on having flimsy ... read more
A great album that encapsulates the vibe of young adolescence partying and just messing around.
Riot Van serves as a nice break from the upbeat tempo, which is then brilliantly followed by the funny story of Red Lights Indicates Doors are Secured
An introspective and personal album that reflects both on Alex Turner's life and also how society has evolved through the rise of mobile phones and being permanently online. It's strength is that it observes the changes but doesn't force you an opinion about it; it just makes you aware of how things have changed.
My favourite lyric describing this is:
"Get freaked out from a knock at the door, when I haven't been expecting one. And didn't that used to be part of ... read more
Their brilliant musiciality and their unique and odd dialogue provide an experience that takes you to a different world; or at least a different way to view the world.
You either love or hate the sound of the vocalist, though.
Maroon 5's first album and in my opinion they immediately peaked with this album. The songs are groovy and sound well. There is nothing special about this album, no "deep" songs, but overall, it's simple and enjoyable to listen to
CHROMAKOPIA is an unique experience. It blends playfullness, with personal and serious stuff. Most songs sound very different and are an unique new experience. I love how it re-uses samples (like the faint "byeeee...."), between different songs as it provides cohersion and a sense of familiarity to the otherwise very different songs.
A notable album where a Spanish mariachi singer cohersively ties the album together, presenting each song as a distinct tragedy, reflecting Kendrick Lamar's perceived tragedy of his life. The only downside is that some songs are quite forgettable. Some highlights of the album are: gloria, reincarnated and tv off.
The whole albums flows nicely and makes you wanna go party. Opening with 360 and then closing with an alternative version, "365" is greatly executed and gives the song an interesting new perspective
