I simply love this one. I actually didn’t like it on my first listen but when I was in the right mood for it, it was like a dark dream that you can really just lose yourself in. It’s like there’s a constant, flowing river of hypnotizing sound, and every in awhile something will raise its head above the water (a feature, a string or synth line) only to fade back into the darkness just as quickly as it came
Interesting that Ethel traded in her impressive vocal performances for more murky, sometimes spoken verses and wide open spaces of sound. This album has a lot of great, eery openness in it that does a lot with minimal production at times. Solid atmosphere, bit long for what it is but doesn’t feel nearly as dragged out as you might think given the run time. Vacillator is a big highlight, Punish as well. Could see this souring over time for me but for now it’s a solid 7.
Brutal and touching work from Jason on this one, if a bit simple- less so in the “three chords and the truth” way and more in the “hot and cold lack of messaging and distinction” way. Wasn’t sure how exactly he’d address everything lmao, still not entirely sure
Fun, upbeat tracks. I can tell he’s spittin I think? Features are fun as well. I’ve read the lyrics translated and while I’m sure they don’t hit nearly as hard outside of their native language, it’s by and large just standard pop fare anyhow. Mostly I’m impressed with how good it sounds, everything is tight and sharp. Great record, would recommend giving it a shot if you like pop music
Some really cool sounds and melodies on here, I think it’s worth checking out to see what you like and leave what you don’t. I’m just not the world’s biggest Panda Bear fan to be honest, there’s a tendency towards being a snooze fest present here
Kind of a Phoebe clone but I’m rockin with it. On first listen the songs aren’t life changing, but the performances and production are pretty pleasant.
Spacious and foreboding. A lot of solid environments on this album but not a lot to chew on. Not entirely suited for background noise, but not captivating enough for repeated listening.
Plenty of catchy bits to keep you engaged for 35 minutes. With that said, not a lot of variety or depth in here, and I’m not crazy about the lyrics. I bet this would be a blast to see live in a beer garden or something. Not totally sold on FF’s staying power for much longer
Some cool jazzy lofi indie songs here. Overall kind of a monolith, didn’t catch any standout moments when I was listening. Still, pleasant enough and the lyrics are serviceable
Some solid lines here and there, but the beats are mostly uninspired and I didn’t really connect with any tracks in particular. Would’ve been cool to switch up the vibe some more and have a couple songs with a hook. Features were unimpressive.
Borderline unlistenable. Boring as hell. I never understood the word drivel before I heard this album.
