Took me a few listens but yeah I’m convinced. The only complaint I can really levy onto this song is the intro does feel a bit heavy handed and long for a song that doesn’t even cross the 3 minute mark. Outside of that, definitely a banger that signals that he is back to a more straightforward approach to his music. Those trumpets are hella catchy too.
Yeah, fair enough. Drop Dead was just an appetizer. This is the main course. This is phenomenal
At times can feel a little one note, plus I think some of the songs definitely have room for growth. But on the whole, a great debut! With how he talks about this project, we may not see much more in terms of music. But hey, at least what we got met expectations.
Best tracks: pe$o$, breathe, sickening
Worst track: mailman
I know they say separate the art from the artist but what the actual hell man. Here With Me, I feel like a shitty person listening to it but at least it’s a well written song. This is horrendous, even without the context of the convictions. It’s a bad song pulled down further by an even shittier context.
I think it’s good. Yeah, not much more. Just some good sticky pop. Leagues better than anything she created 2024 and beforehand
I love fisting my bump to this!
All jokes aside, unironically one of the best songs of the 2010s. Truly a shining gem in an otherwise decent career.
This is simultaneously the best and worst thing I have ever heard in my life. Oh well, when in doubt, middle out!
Umm…. Yeah… that was something wasn’t it?
I said Nightingale Lane was Amy Winehouse but with a big band orchestra. This is that but about a million times more over the top. And hell did they commit to it. Absolutely phenomenal.
A near perfect follow up. Whilst instrumentally it’s not as special The Great Divide, it’s arguably an even stronger song lyrically. Didn’t have Noah Kahan on my list of hyped albums this year but here we are.
Edit: 85 —> 95
This is such an odd mix between Smile era Porter Robinson, FMTY era Quadeca and bbno$ as the glue and it somehow absolutely shines. One of his best in a while.
This is basically an Amy Winehouse song if instead of a small jazz band, she had a full orchestra at her disposal. And yes, that is a massive compliment.
This has two directions it can go:
1. A surprisingly decent album with really weak singles
2. Father Of All 2.0
I’m really it’s gonna be the latter
Yeah the original is better, but this is still phenomenal. Top 3 Twenty One Pilots easily.
Damn Hivemind really looking different nowadays. The short one can scream and the tall one is black now.
Come back to this review. As a long time Joji fan, this is going to be an absolute rant of a review. Never in my life have I heard an album with such good positives get completely ruined by everything around it, dragging down even the enjoyment of the highlights.
I plan to dive in properly later, at least once I knock off work for the day.
Damn, colour me impressed. Whilst Stick Season never really impressed me (still some good songs), I’m shocked by how great this is. Looking forward to more.
