This is a very tough album to talk about for me, as I relate it so strongly to my late grandad who adored ELO. While Eldorado may have not been his favourite, the story and tone of this album means I just can’t help but assign him as the protagonist in my head.
A beautiful, terrifying LP that sinks its musical claws in and drags you down to a place where you laugh, cry and grapple with mortality.
The fact Jeff can just slip in catchy pop tracks within this deeply gripping story, and they don’t take away from the overall feel of the album but instead add to it is insane.
It all culminates in one of the most beautiful album endings I’ve ever heard. A masterpiece.
