Loyle Carner is another standout British act, not conforming to the normalities presented by other up and coming acts of British rap such as Headie One, 67 or Russ, Loyle Carner raps are full of emotion and draw from happy and sad places throughout his life. This album is something really special content wise and shows the power of raw emotion and how amazing an artist can be when they use their experiences as a centre-piece for their music. Despite this, the melodies of the music can sometimes ... read more
Little Simz solidifies herself as one of the best female MCs in the world but also, reaches the par of some of the best MCs overall. The Grey Area doesn't necessarily push the boundaries of what a rap artist can do but each track, Little Simz executes the beat so beautifully, the best way to describe it is musical premeditated murder. Her flows and bars and cadence are second to none and she knows that. She oozes nothing but confidence on this album, she knows she's killing all of this shit. I ... read more
I haven't spent much time listening to BROCKHAMPTON as a group but I decided to give Kevin Abstract's LP a try, I was pleasantly informed that he is a great artist with a great voice. I can't say it's amazingly put together but it's merging of R&B styles as well as alternative rap styles, create an artistic world which I've been happy to dive into. It shows the troubles faced by a queer artist. It's a good piece of work and deserves a high space, I look forward to more solo AND Brockhampton ... read more
Despite me rating Dave's Psychodrama higher (and I'm certain it'll stay that way), I prefer slowthai's album as a whole. slowthai mimics no one in the game and is nothing but himself, Nothing Great About Britain is nothing, if not an amazing album which should be placed highly in everyone's list. The fact of the matter is, slowthai's character, craziness and overall ability is so good that, you don't need to be British to love him, his content is very English but, through all his traits, he's a ... read more
I'm a British citizen and the one thing that annoys me is the amount of Americans that will knock the UK's music, maybe I'm biased but a lot of American's seem to think this album is a 6 or less, marking it as average. I couldn't disagree with that fact any harder. PSYCHODRAMA sees all of Dave's thoughts merge into one, 51 minute therapy session. From the very first track, "Psycho", the beat switches and the content that he raps about is superb, all paired with an array of hard ... read more
