my ears felt like they went thru every frickin sound on the first 4 tracks. like this is just some album u can feed to ppl who cant take 'Revengeseekerz' but still feel like 'U' is too chill. tracks like "Really Real", "Dopamine", "Blow My Mind" and "Sucker For Love" feel like ur mind is getting pulled in all directions with the number of things going on, while still keeping the 'pop' in all these tracks. the title track was ... read more
NOW THIS SHOWS HE LISTENS TO CRITICISM YEAHHH. this album is so much less obnoxious than his previous album, trading annoying hooks for MUCH MORE MELODIC AND FUN SONGS. this album is the definition of improvement, honestly. 'Changes', 'Beat Yourself Up', and 'New Jersey' all have great melodies, and his voice mix is so much more tolerable here, oh my goshhh. most of the tracks feel like attempts at slower, more 80s inspired pop (soft) rock sounds, which i have to ... read more
now this is how u make a dance pop album. this is so fun, and all the songs make u feel like ur going thru the hottest street of ur life. the first 5 tracks r defo the strongest tracks on the whole album (being the singles), but the subsequent tracks make sure to keep the momentum and danceability of the album. tracks like "UNKNOWN LOVERZ" and "OLD FLING$" kind of turn into a dance pop soup after a while but the album picks up the dance bass-driven sound from "I'M ... read more
i listened to this album for 2 weeks straight. u can cry to this album forever. the production on this album is insane. fuzzy shoegaze-y guitars and clashing vocals on songs like "spider", "halloween" and "we dont exist" carry these tracks to a dark, moody sound. the slowcore influence on tracks like "guesthouse", "play my guitar", "something has to change", "sister" and "sick/relapse" is like a meditation to be ... read more
this album goes so hard. energy up, great melodies, great flows. the production is so addictive and heated. i cant believe this is the same guy who wrote Fête de la Vanille. craziest switch up. tracks like "G6 Anthem", "2010 Justin Bieber", "Cara Mia" and "Yes, You May" all have great melodies and the production doesnt take away from that at all. most of the songs being rage tracks also have gd lyrics and insanely bass boosted production. i highly ... read more
the start of the album was extremely strong. the opener 'Love Blur' is definitely the best track from the standard tracklist for sure. tracks like '24/7', 'Never Go Down', and 'Sloppy Joe' also keep the energy of the mixtape up. i think the main issue i have with this mixtape is just the tracks 'Holding, 'Death By MP3' and 'The Sky' slowing the mixtape down a lot and the closer doesnt rlly hit right with the slower pace of the 3 ... read more
the production on all the tracks r so upbeat and hard, its just my head nodding to the beat on every song, great melodies on songs with more singing like 'Eyesight', 'Brand New', 'Brain Fog'. the lucy bedroque collab, 'Daytona' is also extremely well done. all the tracks having transitions into each beat makes the album feel so smooth. i wished that the last 1 track on the album did something that felt more like a closer, but i guess it is gd enuf to ... read more
how did i miss out on this last year... my music taste wldve been so different. this album is so great in many ways. thematically, this album discusses love, but also describes capitalism as 'cult-like' and acts as a criticism of how our society functions. this whole album is incredibly well produced, with instrumental breaks that keep u listening on and smooth vocals that r soothing to the ears. im mainly a pop, edm, and rock listener, so such a genre of music has never appealed to ... read more
FORGOT TO REVIEW THIS. fun end to their box set.
oh... i was a little disappointed with how the album sounds in general. the singles rlly outshine the rest of the songs on the album. i was honestly hoping for back to back tracks of dancing, but this just felt like if the oklou album actually had drums (and more pumping synths). okay, but that being said, the album is still well done in general, and there r definitely more standouts than just the singles themselves. the production is very well done, and the songs r still upbeat enough to be ... read more
hits with great electronic beats at 12am honestly. the album is rlly sonically cohesive and is lowkey enuf to pull off the softer instrumentals on some songs. overall, the pop songs were popping, the ballads (just 2 tracks) were good, and the electronic beats were pumping. lyrically, i can tell that this album does not have a main focus on that, but whatever gd lines there r, they exist in the right context of songs. unfortunately, its barely kiss and outside the club vibes. but who cares, I ... read more
if i took 9 years to cook this, id be pissed at myself. honestly, just listen to silksonic, the joint album is just a better version of whatever this is. lyrically, he has not grown in these 9 years. im honestly tired of these lyrics, but its in the title "The Romantic"... its far from being interesting, it just feels like he wrote the same song 9 times. instrumentally, this album is so cohesive to the point that everything sounds the same. only stand outs were "risk it all" ... read more
angry and introspective album. the lyric and metaphor use is rlly effective. most of the songs either discuss mortality, relationships or womanhood. instrumentals r ridiculously well done and beautiful, the whole album is also very cohesive. the highs hit with that electric guitar punch, but the lows keep it very lowkey with more emphasis on lyrical content. i feel this album lacks in length, only 34 min of material is a bit short, with each track only being about 3 min. if not, this is the ... read more
lowkey like the instrumental, the chorus is kind of mehh but everything is else is pretty okay
what is the point of releasing an album full of half baked songs. like this is honestly so sad i had hopes for this album. there were a few (7) standouts in the 21 tracks... that is not even HALF the tracks on this album. this whole album is just interludes back to back, im being nice with the score.
very pop-centric album as a follow up to 'brat'. a lot more upbeat than i initially thought it wld be. very fun and very cool. just wished the sky ferreira collab didnt feel so dry. ITS GREAT recommend.
