Laufey knows where her sound is headed. This is a major leap from the quiet and stripped down instrumentals of Bewitched. Not saying that the slow-paced material of her sophomore isn't good, but it definitely had some drawbacks. This album expands on her sound, sometimes even making me feel like I'm listening to a Disney soundtrack. Sonically it goes in a different direction compared to her previous records, but it is done well. The lyricism never lacks too, expect on a few tracks, ... read more
The production on this album is insane. One gripe I have about this is the concept of this album being a bit foggy but overall it is one of the best folktronica albums I've heard so far.
Never thought I would be so addicted to slowcore and ambient. A perfect, tragic, well-written album. Just my cup of tea.
MY REVIEW OF THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL: FROM 7.9 TO 5.2/10

Synthpop stopped being basic when this duo writes their next album. A perfect album with great moments of rest and danceability, every track feels like a way to grab back at your attention. It has a well written concept and the message is conveyed well through the songwriting and moments in production. This album takes all the space sonically, but still leaving some for your brain to groove to.
An amazing album that definitely explores uncommon genres. She did what no one can, create a listenable, repetitive album, feel emotional and exciting with every track and instrument added.
this album is inconsistent but feels just like a person who is going through a breakup, u love it or hate it
Christopher Rowe has made multiple poor choices on the album, such as the use of a virtual electric guitar instead of the bright live guitars in 'Style' as well as adding an extra note to the synth lead in 'Welcome to New York'. Most of these choices were poor which made me feel like the album was done in 2 weeks. One other thing I noticed was the poor vocal production and some how muddy and click-filled drums?? I do applaud Taylor for her amazing vocals on the record but ... read more
is this an identity crisis?? ms girl instead of taking other people's songs maybe go to therapy. it reallyy helps!!!
This album took turns that were predictable but still felt fresh. This is beabadoobee's best record so far, featuring rather upbeat songs like, 'California' and slower and less energetic songs like, 'Coming Home', this album was definitely worth a listen. Most of the songs feature a strumming guitar with very compressed vocals which is not uncommon when it comes to the mixing and production of bea's music. However, I do want to point out 'Girl Song' which ... read more
One of the best albums of 2024. This album was not what i was expecting at all, with the first three tracks exploring and dipping their feet into indie rock. Focus onwards took a turn back into the indie/folk genre and production style. With many lyrics hitting hard and other parts of the album hitting hard and relatable such as "Family Heirloom" and "Nothing Can", this album hits at all the right spots. I think it could be lacking in length on certain songs such as ... read more
EASILY ONE OF THE BEST RECORDS EVER MADE IN HISTORY
This album does not prove that it is a ship that will sail for a long time. Taylor Swift has made hit after hit until Midnights came around where she decided to let producer Jack Antonoff take over the production, having his interpretation of how a synth pop record should sound. Since then, the duo has made 2 rerecorded albums which yet again brings out the stale instrumentals and poor vocal production. This duo proves that not only can inspiration wear off, but so can ideas. The duo started ... read more
EASILY ONE OF THE BEST RECORDS RELEASED THIS YEAR. We might be getting our throats filled with music from so many artists this year, but some albums might not necessarily shine as bright. HIT ME HARD AND SOFT has proven that quality over quantity is essential for such a saturated time in the music industry. With songs like CHIHIRO having a killer bassline as well as BIRDS OF A FEATHER bring out the romance TV show vibe, this album covers the mainstream and alternative sides of music. Honorable ... read more
one of the best folk/indie/pop albums i've heard in a long time with many relatable lyrics as these songs were written when she was in high school. such experiences are fresh and unlike looking back and i think this contributes a certain form of innocence hidden in the core of the album. similar to how taylor swift is also rerecording her old records, i think studio recording and professional production to relive these lyrics while having a more mature sound was a great choice.
