Malcolm Todd - Do That Again

it was not bad. i think there r things i liked abt it, there r things that i didnt. for one, this album kinda drops his guitar lines/solos, its more focused on overall instrumentals and the electric piano in like every song. his writing here still plays more into clichés, but he isn't afraid to drop more daring and intimate lines. this album treads a thin line between heartbreak and being intimate. most songs mention both subjects in a single track so it kinda bundles all the tracks ... read more

this album is just filled with insanely bright distortion and kicks and synths that explode in ur ears. but having such a sound throughout makes the album feel a bit too much to handle in general. the first 2 tracks of the album feel like 2 back to back openers, no really a developed song until "lil qoo". "BURNMATERIAL" is a good track overall, lyrically and sonically, and it carries that rock and edm mix well too. then we hit our first interlude, "strawberrychop" ... read more

this is what i wld make once i find the weird sounds in my DAW and decided i wanted to make a trance album with all those elements. i believe if u played this in a club, everyone wld just fall asleep. even though this is a dance pop album (apparently EDM and house??), i feel like if i tried to dance to this my body wld just be moving to that one kick drum moving throughout all the tracks, thats how dull the beats r. the album starts out with the sleepy, "My Old Ways", kind of setting ... read more

so glad i discovered her on social media, cuz this electropop album is just an upbeat burst of sounds, and extremely catchy tunes. the albun starts with a meditative, slow track, "EVERYTHING I'VE EVER WANTED", where the lyrics see her discussing her identity and the lack of gratification from getting something she wanted. this track is the first and last track that u cant dance to, cause "DOIT4ME" is an immediate change of pace (and a smooth transition from track 1). ... read more

im surprised. going into this album, i just thought he wld do another controversial project. but this time, he actually delivered for most of the album. the first 6 tracks of the album r actually well done. they have great flows and great lyrics. but i wld have to say from the track "BULLY" onwards, the album goes on a downward trend. the track "CIRCLES" is a MESS. the whole track is littered with Kanye's AI vocals repeating "circles"... the first verse of ... read more

RAYE - THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE.

this activated all the theatre kids. i went into the album, thinking it wld be more like a mainstream pop album with a bit of live band flair, but this just ended up being a full on narration of a story.

in autumn (act 1), the tracks mostly cover talking about being not good enough or being done wrong by men. lyrically, she does not miss at all on this act, with clever uses of metaphors to describe such situations or emotions. i feel like her writing could be a bit on the nose sometimes. the ... read more
