Joey Valence & Brae - HYPERYOUTH
90

Might go up later but this is a safe score

Edit: Was 85

JID - God Does Like Ugly
75

Certainly some low points for me. I'd argue even for the better songs, this isn't absolutely top form JID. Which is to say, there are still some great tracks on here. On some of the best tracks JID is fantastic, accompanied by just as good (if not better) features from Clipse and Vince Staples especially. I was also quite a big fan of YourUgly and Gz, and the run from On McAfee till the end is pretty great, with For Keeps being a phenomenal closing track. However, I think the middle ... read more

DANGERDOOM - The Mouse and the Mask
85

Great Danger Mouse production and fit DOOM's style very well

Benny the Butcher - Excelsior
65

I enjoyed this EP a decent bit. There isn't anything super good and Sign Language wasn't that good but most of the other songs were pretty decent. The highlights I think are Duffel Bag Hottie's Revenge and Toxic, which seems to be the general consensus but they are pretty easily the standouts I think.

André 3000 - 7 piano sketches
50

hotel lobby pianos and the last two songs were my favorites, the rest isn't necessarily awful but just kind of not that interesting. The more experimental it got near the end, the better.

JID - WRK
75

First verse has some weird deliveries to me on first listen but the second verse is insane. I like the tone that JID is bringing and it makes me more excited for the album. The song might grow on me but for now I don't think JID is performing in top form on this song, but he's still JID.

EDIT: 80 --> 75 Yeah nah the chorus has fallen off for me more. Second verse is still fire but ehhh idk

Jane Remover - Revengeseekerz
85

Hadn't listened to anything by Jane Remover before and went in completely blind. The highlight is definitely the production some of the beats are absolutely insane. Jane's performance is also good. Would love to listen to her more rock focused albums based on the more rock stuff here. Danny Brown's feature is fantastic as well. Rating might go up with some re-listens but a lot of the songs I already think are fantastic.

David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
90

I have nostalgia for some of these songs but it really is just a great album. First full listen through!

IDK - CLOVER
85

Everyone was great but Joey Valence & Brae could've had longer verses. Otherwise I don't have any complaints

Benny the Butcher - Tana Talk 3
85

I definitely need to re-listen to some of the songs in the first half because by the end I was fully invested. Daringer's production sometimes hits right away for me, and when it does, it's fantastic. But sometimes I need to let it sit with me and listen to it a few times, so I will be returning to some tracks. The Alchemist has only straight fire beats on here, especially for two of my favorite songs on this album Rubber Bands & Weights and Broken Bottles. My favorite songs ... read more

Ghais Guevara - BlackBolshevik
85

Pretty crazy track run from Honky's Sleep Paralysis Demon to Kidnap Mark Cuban Then Hide Away In Cuba. Despite it's short length it is able to pack a lot of heat into a small amount of time. Some insane flows and lyrical ability. The production is fantastic from the samples used to just how hard the beats go.

jev. - bad girls are no fun
30

I am so glad that jev. has grown A LOT from this. Paint was at the very least ok compared to the other songs, the small snippet of Jays that didn't get claimed sounded good but I can't really count that. The domino interlude was an ok instrumental. The first two songs were awful. It also ends super abruptly. There just isn't much value here.

McKinley Dixon - Beloved! Paradise! Jazz!?
90

This was my introduction to McKinley Dixon, just randomly came across him while searching for new artists to listen to. And I am SO GLAD that I did. Beautifully produced and beautifully performed. Dedicated to Tar Feather was such a beautiful song. The only word coming to my head to describe this album that feels right is beautiful. Will definitely be listening to more McKinley Dixon, and I want to check out Chais Guevara as well who gave a great feature verse. I'm very glad I discovered ... read more

Paris Texas - They Left Me with a Gun

THIS IS THE PARIS TEXAS THAT I LOVE

IDK - BRAVADO INTiMO...
85

Rating this as a full album. With the addition of these new tracks I'm bringing my rating up. I just needed a little something extra, and these tracks more than fulfill that. Overall I just really like the vibes between IDK's delivers and the production. All of the features are great as well.

Paris Texas - They Left Me with the Sword
70

I liked infinyte a bit more this time and all the other tracks were good. I liked Dogma 25, Tantrum and El Camino the most I think. Nothing gave me the same feeling as Rokkout, but still a solid EP.

Bezz Believe - Fck the Rap Game

"You in my way if you ain't with me you against me and you in my way" You can hear the pain in his voice 💔

Paris Texas - infinyte
50

I am disappointed honestly. It isn't awful, but not nearly the standard that I hold Paris Texas up to. The beat isn't that great for them, it's ok. I just wasn't really vibing with it. The 3rd and 4th verses are short but definitely the best part of the song because that's when I got more into it, especially because I think they utilized the beat to it's full potential here. But overall idk man. I am hoping that I'll like the full EP more than this.

jev. - when angels cry.

I can't lie if jev. keeps up this quality while slowly improving he's on his way to being generational

Run The Jewels - RTJ4
90

RTJ has one of the best four album runs I've ever heard. They never slowed down and continued delivering banger after banger. El-P is pretty good here as always, but Killer Mike was absolutely fucking phenomenal here and gave some of my favorite verses ever from him. His writing and performance is fantastic all around. I particularly will cherish my first listen to his verse in 'walking in the snow.' Absolutely incredible stuff. Overall really great stuff. We need RTJ5 more than ... read more
