Can't say I hate it, quite the contrary indeed.
Black Metal, Post-Metal and Metalcore are the subgenres I listen to the most when it comes to metal, so needless to say I really enjoyed Loss. It sure is a leap of faith for the band, as they delivered with Coma one of the best Post-Black Metal albums of these last 5 years so of course Post-Metal/Metalcore isn't where we could have expected them. However, I can confidently say that I easily recognize all the emotions and feelings ... read more
I have mixed feelings. I have no doubt the band is quite capable when it comes to instrumentation but the whole release, to me, feels slightly off. And for two main reasons.
First, there’s the vocals. The clear singing is good, not exceptional but good enough and at the level of any modern idol band. However, I have more reserves about the growls and screams. Jesus fucking Christ.
HO-LY.
If this album doesn't turn you into a Deafheaven worshipper, I don't know what will.
This is how I always liked this band : a vaporous brutality in which melancholy, dreamlike atmosphere and nostalgia are intertwined. Lonely People With Power is not a record to listen to, it's a record to feel.
Outstanding, from the first to the very last note.
