Jim Legxacy - black british music (2025)
90

One of the most talented artists in the UK currently. The production throughout the course of the album is so expansive and captivating. Jim does a really good job balancing out both personal tracks with upbeat bangers. It doesn't seem like it would collectively work well as an album, but it does very well. UK hip hop is in good hands, Jim is the future for the genre, I'm hoping his trajectory keeps getting higher and higher.

Little Simz - Lotus
90

this is a crazy bold take, but inflo not working with simz is the best thing to happen for her current music, along with her future albums. little simz has made a lot of noise in the hiphop community as of late, but I've never enjoyed an album of hers top to bottom. not until lotus came out. it may not be as up front and "impactful" compared to her recent work. well actually, I think this is by far her most impactful album. a point needed to be made that she can make a well ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - DON'T TAP THE GLASS
80

this came out of left field from tyler. six months after chromakopia we're blessed with ANOTHER album?? first listen, I wasn't a huge fan but I also didn't understand Tyler's concept of this record being a straight up dance driven. once knowing that, second listen was dope. super groovy all around with some of his more fun tracks I've heard in a while. is it better than his last four albums before? I don't think so. but still must admit, this album is fun asf.

De La Soul - Buhloone Mindstate
90

crazy how one summer can put a hip-hop up into my all time favorites. de la soul has always been a notable figure in my life, but stakes is high has been my go to for years dating back to when their discography was put on spotify. that all changed after going back to this album in june. this is one of the smoother albums in the genre you'll ever find, but there's still some bangers. maneco parker quietly carried parts of this record, his sax along with the rest of the production is so ... read more

McKinley Dixon - Magic, Alive!
100

holy shit. hoooooly shit. as someone who consumes a TON of jazz hip hop, I haven't had a reaction to an album like this since imaginal disk. the live instrumentation is incredible, it feels like you're in the recording booth listening to these tracks. dixon nails it bar after bar, alongside his features. love the concept, love the production, love every aspect of this record. for me, this was the best jazz hiphop record I've heard since we got it from here?? (top ten album of all ... read more

Clairo - Charm
84

straight men deserve to listen to clairo. idc this is fire. love the vintage aspect she brings to charm, everything about this is smooth, crisp and comforting.

BexBlu - Wavy, Vol. 1
85

pure heat, clean production throughout. bexblu is slowly on the radar, but deserves more attention too. all of his wavy ep's are smooth and consistent.

Fieves - Between Hello & Goodbye
85

one of my favorite pieces from an uk rap artist out there. really clean and chill, fieves got a lot of potential. I hope he drops soon

Saba & No I.D. - From the Private Collection of Saba and No I.D.
87

Fantastic collaboration album. Great production by NO ID the whole way through, saba delivers some of his best verses of his career. Sooooo many great features that simply make the record so much stronger. The middle portion of the album is a little flat, but overall this is tied my favorite album to be released in 2025 so far.

Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk
100

it's the big 25 and the imaginal disk hype is still MASSIVE. I'm definitely not one to be considered as a pop consumer. but man, when mag. bay says "synth pop in a simulation," they are absolutely right. one of the most insane vocals and production I've personally ever heard on anything, and dare I say, the best album of the 2020s? so glad this exists, I wish I can listen to it again for the very first time.

The Beatles - Let It Be
97

this is a hot take, but this is my favorite beatles album. is it their best? probably not. but I think there's a lot of unique aspects of this album that stand out amongst most of their work. love the live feel you get throughout the entire thing, and despite all the controversy that the band had with their new producer at the time, I think he did a good job. if it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have strings for "the long and winding road," since Paul preferred not to have ... read more

Leon Bridges - Coming Home
86

used to be one of my favorite albums ever created back then. although I don't feel that same way with it anymore, it's still a fantastic record. comforting vocals, lush production makes it an enjoyable listen every time. still one of my favorite out albums in the last decade.

Westside Gunn - 12
73

bro mass releases albums but still has them be pretty solid💀 055, health science and gumbo yaya healed me. one of my fav runs from westside. gumbo is EASILY a classic moving forward.

A Tribe Called Quest - We got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your service
100

god i love atcq. in my opinion there’s not a better farewell album made by a artist in ages as “we got it from here,” and NOTHING will top it moving into the future. having not releasing anything for over a decade and a half, to dropping a 16 track masterpiece is hard to do. what most impresses me is how they were able to maintain their authentic tribe style from all those years but TIE it with modern rap. they assembled the literal avengers to feature on this album, ... read more

p-rallel - Forward
95

An insane six song LP with a lot of different sounds and genres tied in. P-rallel nails the production the whole way through along with perfect features for each song. Great vibey album, one of the best finds i’ve had for uk rap ever.

Vampire Weekend - Only God Was Above Us
97

I never listened to a Vampire Weekend album in my life until this one drops, and safe to say that Only God Was Above Us being my favorite album to drop in 2024 wasn't in my bingo card. It's a collection of songs that all stand out from one another, yet it's such a complete, incredible album. This is where their best instrumentals are performed, and Ezra nails it as the vocalist. Even after listening to most of their discography, I still believe this is their best album and I ... read more

Houndmouth - Little Neon Limelight
98

One of my favorite albums. Very complete and exhilarating. Something I can turn on all the time and won't get sick of. It's such a shame the band has broken off, they had so much potential to being a successful group on the long run.
Favorite songs: Otis, Black Gold, Sedona, Honey Slider

Jelani Blackman - The Heart Of It
97

Jelani Blackman is so underrated. He really changed my perspective of UK hip-hop and rap with this record alone. Incredible from top to bottom, and with some awesome vocals provided from him as well. I seriously cannot wait until his next release, very talented artist.

Lexa Gates - Elite Vessel
91

surprising good record. Lexi brings a fantastic flow with her music, and was a huge fan of the production. very chill, laid back record but I never got bored. this was one of my favorite hip-hop albums this year, highly recommend if you're into 90s chill hip hop.
