Day 13!!!!!
This is a big one. I knew a couple songs, and obviously the entire album has been a reference point for tons of music, so I recognised lots.
There is something so comforting about the soundbites of kids talking about their understanding of love. It envelopes the album, and elevates it hugely. Lauryn's harmonies throughout are beautiful.
The fact that Lauryn produced a lot of this album is also very telling. Even down to the adlibs. Lauryn has a habit throughout of adlibbing ... read more
I listened to this album for the first time as part of my project in which I'm listening to 30 albums I've never heard before over 30 days.
This album flew under the radar for me upon release. I was shocked to learn fairly recently that it won Kacey Album of the Year at the 2019 GRAMMYs. I was also shocked to learn that Kacey is a bit of a GRAMMYs darling (she has 8!!!!!).
I actually got to know Kacey through her most recent album, Deeper Well. I love Deeper Well so much

Day 14 of listening to albums I've not heard before. A lot of albums I gathered from all-time lists, Reddit, etc. However, this one came from me; I love Unbelievers, and have done since I was young. I wanted to explore the rest of the album.
This album is drenched in religious imagery/commentary. In the context of the album, Unbelievers feels more poignant than before. There's so much weirdness throughout this album. For me, this peaks on Ya Hey (a play on the name of Judaism's ... read more
Day 12 day 12 day 12!
I'm familiar with Olivia through Echo (Shazamed from Love Island tbh) and Dive. I'm also loving her song from the new Bridget Jones at the moment. Gorgeous.
This album is SO cohesive. This is partly since it was recorded with a live band. It feels like an immersive world. More than an album. A performance. A live band is a cheat code to get me to enjoy an album (see Lizzy McAlpine's Older).
It's clear to me that Olivia has spent a while refining her ... read more
Day 11 of listening to albums I've never heard!
This is my second Kendrick album (my first being GNX), and it's genuinely great. I knew three or four songs prior to this listen, which is pretty impressive - this album has legs. I love the diaristic nature of this album - the voice notes slipped in throughout really elevate this. This trope feels reminiscent of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (which I also listened to for the first time as part of this project).
There's one song ... read more
