This album sounds like if Tame Impala and Rebecca Sugar teamed up to make a JRPG ost.
Man I really enjoyed this one. I am not really a fan of watch the throne, while I enjoy my beautiful, it doesn't really have what I really like about kanye, which is his really interesting samples and his genuine vocals that depict his fun side, and I feel like this one like nothing since graduation feels like a return to form; but with newer expertise added upon it. The old kanye died before the making of this record. Whoever made this knew what they were doing, and they did it good. Fundamentally different from all that came before it, this album reaches new heights that are some of the most iconic rap hits from the 2010's. A near perfect performance, only held down by blame game and the occasional average quality production, it's a staple of it's time, and set the new standard for this 'new kanye'.
Finally sat down to listen to this one all the way through for the first time. I'm a big fan of the man's first 3, but have kinda held a sentiment for a while now that he fell off hard after graduation; something I've kinda revoked. This marks the downfall of his mental health, as I still believe that gradually he fell from this point to the slop that is vultures, but the stuff from this transitional period is still interesting, and engaging to listen to.
