Finally getting around to this. Yes, I'll do their other albums at some point, but this is new so figured I'd check it out since I like TOP a lot. Was pretty hyped for this since The Contract and Drum Show blew me away. My review here won't be nearly as in depth as most other people's since I haven't really paid much attention to the story Tyler has been telling here since Trench (?), but I do plan on looking into it a bit more eventually. On that note, since that ... read more
This album and Enema of the State are two of the most defining albums of my childhood. The amount of impact that both of these records have on my music taste to this day is very apparent. I have every single song and lyric memorized to a T. I still listen to this all the time and I always have and will love it. So, with all of that, I'm going into this very obviously biased, and I understand that. I just love this stuff so much. Tom and Mark's vocals have always appealed to me, I ... read more
I've been someone who's always generally liked AJR and was pretty excited to see how this was gonna turn out. GUTS is one of my favorite albums, so I had very high expectations coming into SOUR. Sure, I didn't expect it to be as good as GUTS seeing how this is Olivia's debut, but I still had high hopes. I'd say those hopes paid off. I did enjoy this album quite a bit. The best way I can describe this is GUTS but just a little worse. It's everything she showed off so well in GUTS, but just a notch down. Which makes sense, seeing as an artist should improve their sound in their 2nd ... read more
Moving on to Lover, I wasn't sure what to expect. Right from the first track, you can tell how different this album is compared to reputation. It's much more high energy and ditches the whole "edgy bad girl" aesthetic, going for a love-sick type of vibe. That vibe is great and so much fun. Taylor is just so unapologetically herself and you can really tell. To my relief, Taylor has toned down the production significantly, to this records benefit. It's much more focused ... read more
