This is Asia's Heaven on Earth (Yes). This is the musical equivalent of a day at the retirement house for elders, where you're taking care of four old ass dudes yelling at clouds. This sounds SO tired, SO fake, SO plastic and manufactured it's not even funny. They kicked Payne for this sad excuse of a sound. Disgusting.
Okay, I'll give credit where it's due, this was an improvement over the past two reunion albums. They sound more confident, less derivative of their past works, and a bit more mature. The material still is very weak compared to what the band once was, but this is probably the best this reunion lineup ever got.
Eh. Pretty consistent album, but pretty safe album. This doesn't felt like something they were passionate about, just some middle of the road rock tunes that your dad would probably think it's fire. It's better than Arena and Rare, but that's mostly it.
What a comeback, my god. It's like they took as a blue print the best songs off of Arena and made a whole album out of that sound, and it paid off big time. Honestly, the only track that's not a highlight here is the closer, but even then it's a really good track, just not as amazing as the rest.
...Bro, what happened? How do you come off of the masterpiece that was Aria to... whatever the fuck this is? Look, there's some good stuff here. Some excellent stuff even, like The Day Before The War and Two Sides of The Moon. But when this album misses, it MISSES HARD. U Bring Me Down and Bella Nova have no place in an Asia album, like, what the fuck were they thinking?!
Wetton may forgive me, but John Payne is a match made in heaven for Asia's brand of AOR. This is the strongest album so far, and it has a punch that all the previous albums lacked. Every album from Astra onwards was a flop commercially, but this doesn't take away from the sheer quality at display here. Heaven on Earth, Lay Down Your Arms, Who Will Stop The Rain?, The Voice of Reason, A Far Cry, I could keep going. This album is packed with bangers, and it's better than anything ... read more
A commercial flop when it released, Astra actually is a very sharp improvement on the sound of the previous two albums. Heavier, slicker, faster and bigger in scope, it's a shame it ended up being poorly marketed. The material here is banging, with Go, Voice of America, Countdown to Zero, Suspicion and the MASTERFUL After The War. One of the greatest Asia albums for sure.
A really good 80s rock album. While a bit soft at times, it provides some undeniable bangers such as Only Time Will Tell, Wildest Dreams, Time Again and Here Comes The Feeling. While the band went on to produce better records than this one in my humble opinion, this is their most commercially successful record, and it's pretty damn good for what it is.
One or the biggest improvements from the debut I have ever seen. What a fucking BANGER through and through. Kiara cooked, my god.
While not as cohesive as Phantomime, this album is still very competent and well structured. Individually speaking, some songs here are less strong than things on Phantomime, hence the lower rating, but this is still a very good album nonetheless. Also, the singles were kind of the least good tracks here.
How is a song this fire made for a game I don't know and don't care to know?
Motsu out here like Ichiban on Like a Butterfly cracked me up. Really fun track, and IRyS' vocals were really good. I hope she sticks to eurobeat just for the joke, it suits her style really well.
