I guess I’m just not made for K-Pop.
Unless it’s something bigger than the subculture itself, like BlackPink, or I find that one song that grabs me among the rest, I can’t connect with this genre. It doesn’t feel like it has the star-making quality
And it stands even with this very well-produced album.
I’m always in favor of weird artists in pop, and I remember liking Numb Little Bug. So I can’t even really explain why this one didn’t work for me.
Maybe it’s the way it sounded like a collection of Taylor Swift scraps (granted, synth pop Swift is the best Swift, but if you know how I feel about her you know it doesn’t even matter). This is just fun. An exploration of pleasure in tandem with electronic music that firmly places Robyn among the veterans of pop, and deservedly so.
I wasn't sure what I'd have found in horsegiirL, beyond the "BoJack but is girlypop and a producer" gimmick.
I am however SO glad I did, because this crazy lady is a fantastic discovery.

I feel like Lizzo wanted to make a full-out pop rock/pop punk album, but didn’t have the guts to go all out or couldn’t blend it with her more recognizable R&B, rap and disco influences.
