A friend recommended this album to me back when I was first getting into Charli's music. He described it as a truly unique and outstanding album in her discography. At first, I brushed it off and only listened to a few songs ( like "Grins", "So Far Away" and "You (Ha Ha Ha)" ) before completely forgetting about it. Now, I finally understand what he was talking about and I love it.
Loren Rivera's voice is so gentle, and it makes a big contrast with the loud and raw instrumentals in "Raw Blue". I saw some similarities with their earlier album, "Feels Like You" , but since then, Whirr has greatly evolved and their music has started to feel more emotional, genuine and for some maybe even more relatable.
Honestly, I wish that Domestica and Batabid had been included on Vespertine because they are two of the best Björk B-side tracks out there, but I see why they were cut.
