I’ve just been told that I’m not allowed to think less of this album just because 11 of the songs are covers. Out of spite, I’m rating this 0/10
Not catchy enough. 0/10
But yeah this is obviously impeccable
John Lennon made two good songs and called it a day and got credit for everything. That’s only one more than Ringo by the way. George Harrison provided arguably the two best Beatles songs ever, and Paul of course had a perfect run here.

On this stalk-stroking sensation of an album, you’re getting
-super catchy songs that will still make you think
-a couple intimidating riffs
-clear jazz and Latin rock influence (heck yeah moment)
-juicy bass
-Steely Dan level production, dare I say it
-a clock because he’s Charly Garcia and who are you to question it?
This whole album sounds like a continuation of Cygnus X-1 from A Farewell to Kings. The opening track is another great case of Rush’s ability to make a long track interesting all the way through, with Peart’s lyrics of ancient mythology being a highlight. Circumstances has an addictive rhythm, and The Trees tells an interesting story with a lot of room for interpretation. Finally, La Villa Strangiato is simply a ridiculous showcase of the creativity and prowess that the Trio has in ... read more
La conquistada is a beautiful piece, and the last song shows the potential of a great suite, but the rest of the album feels like background music in a taco restaurant from a cartoon show. That’s not meant as an insult- all songs here are viewed at least slightly positively by me, but it just doesn’t do anything more than that for me
I can absolutely see why this is rated so high. The lyrical repetition and it being in French is what brings it down for me
If not for the middle 15 minutes sounding like the bathroom of a World Series baseball stadium during intermission, maybe I’d consider being a little more forgiving on this, but even without it you’re still getting an insanely repetitive song on which I can find no positive thoughts
It’s such a shame, because Ocean Gypsy is a masterpiece and Song of Scheherazade is super cool, but A Trip to the Fair is an unbearable listen for me and the middle section of Song of Scheherazade feels a little too drawn out. I still get great enjoyment out of some songs though, so for that I appreciate the album
Frank Zappa had so many cool ideas and opinions on important issues and topics. I wish he would make more songs dedicated to them because the lyrics on this album are pretty mediocre, with Po-Jama People being an exception at certain parts.
Man that guitar though. It’s just tasty lick after tasty lick like you’re in a land of lollipops. That’s the redeeming factor that keeps it at a decent rating
Rush massively steps it up from 2112 on this album. They retain their long epics, Xanadu and Cygnus X-1 in this case, and the supporting songs are incredible too.
The title track contains possibly the best vocal performance I’ve ever heard from Geddy Lee, poetic lyrics from Peart about hypocrisy and abuse of power, and the consistent Lifeson on guitar, adding a fun touch of acoustic and electric, as he does for the whole album.

Monster of an album lyrically, with pure poetry, and flow and cadence so good you would think they studied 90s rappers 20 years before they existed. Impressive instrumental work, but the raw quality and shaky vocals of Hammill are hard to get used to.
2112 shows that Rush is capable of being more than a Zeppelin clone, and pushing boundaries just a touch. The opener being a massive concept suite with great lyrics and sound, but a couple small sections that bore, and the closer being my favourite on the album with a great message, awesome playing from Lifeson and Peart, and an easy runtime to relisten to.
