Not even finished listening and it's SO good. It definitely sounds like Gerard and co. were going through a lot when they were recording these, and I can definitely tell they didn't know what their next direction would be !! HOWEVER !! that's not a bad thing in this case. Not having a solid sense of direction can sometimes lead to some really innovative and transformative art that pushes boundaries because any sense of boundary has been let go of. really great. not as directly memorable as clancy imo but has higher highs and a way better ending (sorry paladin truthers).
definitely experimental but not in the abrasive off-putting weird way, more in the structural way. definitely their most mature/subdued sound while also being close to trench in terms of how it reaches for a wide palatte and doesn't stay on one vibe for a long time. also gotta say the album cover is BANGER but does not match the vibe of the songs imo
