Joey is back. "Pardon Me" isn't on the level of the other two tracks but still solid. Surely an album announcement is coming soon? Conductor x Joey tape would be unreal.
First Jay Exodus listen, and it was alright. The Camo Monk beats were definitely the highlight, with some good features from Conway and Boldy. Not really a fan of when some rappers do those singing hooks and flows, which stand out too much on this project. First half of the album is solid, but tracks like "Chevrolet" really let it down. "She been sendin pics to my google drive" like come on bro.
Don't really know where this came from, but a very solid little project with some nice production and great performances from Boldy & Rome. Not sure if it counts as a Boldy album, however it is much better than his last two releases from this year. Need to do some research on 88:88 and tap in.
Not my usual type of music, but after seeing so many good things about this album online, I had to check it out. Absolutely glad I did. Lianne's voice is truly on another level, calming yet powerful, the vocal performances never disappoint. Extremely consistent throughout, the instrumentals compliment her very well. British female artists hit different. Love the cover art as well.
This album will divide opinion based on if you like Nack & Stove, which for me is no problem at all. Gunn brings together two of the stand-out unique rappers in the underground to create a gritty, grimy, but beautiful sounding project. Probably, his best output since "10", the production and rapping is always entertaining. Brother Tom Sos also has a really strong performance on this one, and proves he can hold his own with Gunn's frequent collaborators. Excited to see if he ... read more
Very good rapping from Josiah on this project, but the production in the first half wasn't too exciting. Definitely picks up with "Teflon" and stays pretty consistent from that point. Solid LP.
An absolutely essential jazz rap album, Tribe's debut really is fantastic. Q-Tip defined the sub-genre's style with the incredible sample work and boom bap drums, culminating in an extremely relaxing vibe that has amazing replayability. The first eight tracks are some of my favourite of the 90s. It may not be as consistent in the second half, but a quality listen nonetheless. Amazing album.
Some premium, classic Griselda magic from Mach Hommy. Amazing boom bap production with the Haitian rapper providing his unique rapping style on top. Maybe some tracks feel a bit long in places, but this doesn't affect the listening experience. Songs like "1080p", "Bey Six", and "Kapeesh" are some of his best work and really show off the east coast underground sound I love. Amazing album.
Short but very decent EP from the original GxFR crew. Gunn, Mach and Conway on Daringer & Alchemist production could keep me entertained all day. Also, a dope feature from one of the GOAT's. RIP Prodigy.
Love hearing someone from the UK on this type of production. SonnyJim might be one of the best rappers we have. Solid album with some great beats and features. Potentially, some tracks are a bit too long, but an enjoyable listen overall. Need to check out the rest of his discography.
Yeah this ain't for me. Couldn't get past the 3rd song, and this has TWENTY ONE TRACKS. Maybe, I'll rate it one day.
Gunn follows up the underground classic HWH2, with the next part in the mixtape series. Another grimy, hard hitting themed project, equipped with some solid features and producer list to match. The 17 track long tape allows for some great tracks like "Rolacks", but also some more tedious ones. Still a decent listen nonetheless.
Decent rapping and beats for a nice short EP. Tracks "Just Rhyming" and "Hip Hop Head" stand out.
Some really cool production from Real Bad Man once again, but the ZelooperZ performance doesn't do much for me. That feeling is emphasised with strong features from Uncle Al, Boldy, and MAVI.
First time listening to both producer & rapper on this album, and it was some serious heat. Some absolutely quality production throughout this project that ranges from really chill drumless to more jazzy boom bap. Fat Ray glides on these beats effortlessly, keeping you intrigued on what type of flow is next up. This feels like an album that will only get better with time, and I expect my rating to go up with more listens. Great project.
30 minutes of decent rapping on some grimy boom bap beats. All 3 emcees deliver a good performance. Nice EP.
Incredible rapping throughout, with some classic early hip hop era production. They would clearly go on to do great things.
2024 Rap Album Of The Year. Mach provides an incredible blend of gritty street talk & thoughts on Haitian political issues over some excellent abstract production. 17 powerful tracks with no filler, this project brings together many sounds that despite being different, feel very consistent. Some dope features on this album with regular Mach collaborators in Droog & Fahim, and fresh ones in Black Thought & KAYTRANADA that were very welcome. Favourite tracks include: ... read more
Hooli is back for a small, hard hitting EP. Solid trap production by Agor and some nice features throughout.
Marci and Al just don't miss. Another quality addition to both of their elite discographies. 10 short tracks of underground hip hop prestige, they really are the gatekeepers. It's not on the level of TEMB back in 2022, but it's clearly not meant to be as big of a project. 68 user score is absolutely crazy, quite clearly this style of rap just ain't for you, or it's gone over hundreds of heads.
