After the first notes of 'total euphoria' (that was real wtf) the record doesn't really continue to break expectations. It's just a post-rock album that was born a little bit weirder farm and bred with some avangarde influences
Production and performance are perfect though
favs: total euphoria, When I get home
my beauty gf now brings chicken pelmeni to me everyday, thanks to aesop
Not as tacky as the previous one but still not good. Regarding all the cancelled tour disaster, I thought that the duo will come to sense that they need to scale down.
I hope that this is just the check of the direction as I at least was able to listen to it from start to finish, with some tracks as highlights.
I don't mind a couple of summer jams here.
Favs: Down to Nothing, On Repeat, All My Life
A slight shift of direction from their last year's LP, now boogie is backed with the orchestra arrangements. However it doesn't bring any much of new experience to my ear because of several reasons.
First and foremost, the band itself hasn't freed up enough space for its seventh companion so sometimes I hear some nice line from strings or brasses and like to focus on it but vocals or guitar noodling takes over and makes everthying sound like a confused mess. In overall album ... read more
After debatable All Fiction, Pile returns back with a prove that this was the much needed experiment. Rollercoastery dynamic and thrill of this track is something beyond my mind.
Also, great drumwork from Kris - rolls on the second verse are super-hypnotizing
Much more catchy than Quatermass Seven, incredible production. Looks like each one of the trio got more presence and understood their strengths. Barrie's guitarwork must be studied as an example of great, lush, classic R&B riffs, Malcolm gives even more of dub and klaut influences and Lewis is present underneath the mix with his always-on-point low-end P Bass.
Favs: Electric War, 'Said Soul, Count of Four
Least fav: Creaky
I have to tell that I didn't like "Tell Me I'm Pretty" when it came out and I still don't. That LP marks the band when it gave up their garage roots for the 70s inspired 'retro' sound, If you will. It granted them two Grammy and pop success but musically the band sounds just meeeh
But despite really weak songwriting the drums and the bass are juicy almost on every song, some songs still landed on my Favourite CTE playlist
Favs: HiFi, Good Time, Silent Picture
I guess they are going to the roots on this one in terms of sound, this is fun cozy track. Not flashy for the lead single but for me personally it's built anticipation
Heard about this album a couple days ago.
I think this is one of the best things that Page-Plant duo has ever done. Without JPJ involvement and with Albini's help they successfully scratched their sound back to basics and capture all that made LZ great. A lot of time you hear only guitar and voice and it's great!
Music has most of the marks: acoustic ballads, eastern-flavoured licks, stadium-igniting riffs - pick up your favorites. As for me, the best is the middle part and the closer.

Interestingly this alliance between Kim and trap sound works really well. While the latter IMO lost some of its initial steam, now it's the perfect time for it's expansion and recontextualization. Which I think Kim actually is willing to do with this record and occasionally it works out really really good.
After I gave it the second listen I enjoyed it even more. Kim Gordon tries technology, social media and finds it hollow and meaningless. And after so many years some people (men?) are still ... read more
Very enjoyable album, a combination of everything that the band stepped on in the last 20 years. Some of the production choices are very questionable but the record is fire overall
Favs: Guzzle Blood, Oi! Division, World Got Great
Good attempt to switch things up and establish new colors in bands palette. Singles are really nice, raw and well-written but some other songs lack on development. It seems strange to ask complexity from a punk-first band but a couple of good bridges or sudden changes wouldn't harm your typical verse-chorus-verse-chorus-silentchorus-chorus structure.
Lyrically I'd say Joes performance is passable and occasionally even inspired. I'd say positivity and love themes are alright, 'Love is all' ... read more
Very enjoyable pop record but by the end I got little tired by piano arpeggios. Still good album, a lot of nice hooks and lofi sounds
Favs: Classical, Connect, Hope
A new take on the established band's sound swings into both more polished and stripped-down raw directions, which is really good. Guitars are crisp and angular, bass syncopates more than ever and drums playing has really improved.
The second half is a bit weaker but still I enjoyed all of the 30 mins.
Favs: Exacto, Plastic Oyramid, INTL Waters, Granite Kiss
Album is enjoyable, filled with passion and genuine openness. Fits almost every mood, it can cheer you up and sober you too.
The music may seem redundant but I like how saddle it starts and builds up toward the end on some track like "Say Goodbye".
Favs: King of Sweden, Say Goodbye
I have very mixed feelings for now, some of the parts are very fascinating in this record but overall require further listening.
So far just better than good
Favs: Friend Of A Friend, I Quit
Not super excited about this LP yet it feels better than the previous one mostly because it's more balanced (I always felt than since the band became a duo Carrie started to prevail). Still overproduced, lacking on hooks a little bit but enjoyable.
Favs: Say It Like You Mean It, Six Mistakes
