Unfortunately there is not much excitement left from the band that gave us a handful of classic albums. Just like their previous self-titled album, it is over produced and lacks the horizon-glazing quality of their career heights. The slower cuts like Beginning From The Ending, River Road and obvious stand-out Time Waited are however good entries to their catalogue. Thankfully, they continue to release their MMJ Live series which is a must for all true fans.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this is the best hip hop album ever recorded. Maybe. Possibly. Most likely.
MonstaBeatz beats kind of where it started for Spitta so expectations accordingly. But this is not even his best of the year and nothing I found worth revisiting.
Production-wise this is one of Al's most underrated. Havoc delivers a late carrier highlight.
O man, Fully Auto should be considered a classic. The rest is uneven, but Secret Society, Death Wish and few others are all stellar stuff
Another masterclass production from Futurewave. And when it comes to underrated rappers, no one tops Rome. On paper, this duo should be able to create a timeless classic. This is not quite there.
Futurewave is currently the most creative producer out there. Boldy delivers his usual flawless shit. One of his best. This pairing is killer.
Took me a few years to warm up to Larry June. His Alchemist colab was what did it but the beats here by Harry Fraud makes more sense for his flow. Rating will probably climb over time.
This is so underrated. Killer beats from Superior and smooth, laid-back bars from Eto. A 2019 highlight.
This shit is insane. His Madlib and Alchemist colabs are some of the best hiphop out there, but this comes close enough.
MF DOOM, a few Kendrick releases and a couple of Madlib/Freddie Gibbs collaborations might top this, and oh, obviously Covert Coup, but all in all one of the best hiphop albums of this millennia. The first half is probably unmatched by any album recorded after 2010. And the second half is nearly as good.
Album cover 10/10. Beats, features - all spot on. The first of many captivating Willie The Kids releases the past decade.
The most underrated hiphop record of 2020. Or any record, period. This shit is haunting.
Uneven, but this is definitely worth paying attention to. The beats are dark as hell and the lyrics are at times sharp and insightful. Like any true art it has the potential to suck you into its world.
3 current greats at their prime. An easy top 10 of the 2010s
Not as great as the other classic Wu solo debuts. RZA probably brings his least impressive production on any of his classics. And ODBs originality is a bit too much for a whole album length. But mostly enjoyable nonetheless.
