Every track on this album is thought so well in terms of their role and placement on the album that it's honestly unbelievable. This record is extremely diverse and experimental, but also cohesive and firm. It has grand orchestral elements, it has psychedelic elements, it has disgusting riffs, stunning solos, and basically everything you could ask for from a Sabbath album. It's certainly more mellow than their next output, yet somehow it still retains that vicious anger and spite. ... read more
Incredibly underrated. Ian sounds absolutely demonic on this record and his voice fits surprisingly well with Tony's crunchy riffs. The commonly criticized production, while undeniably muddy, manages to add to the unnerving, dark atmosphere in a positive way. The two interlude tracks ('Stonehenge' & 'The Dark') are super immersive and perfectly complement their respective following tracks. Slightly more boring compared to Perfect Strangers but still an enjoyable listen. I felt like there were less memorable riffs, but I really enjoyed Gillian's vocals. The band definitely held back on any type of flashy or impressive playing in favor of a more generic sound, which really hurt the record for me as I always loved Paice's and Blackmore's technical fills/solos/riffs.
Despite this, I think the production itself is very rich, albeit slightly overproduced for Deep ... read more
Incomprehensible compilation of absolute nonsense.
The production is honestly horrific. Nothing stands out in the mix except for that god-forsaken high-hat. It sounds terrible.
Song-wise, it's honestly very weird and somehow quite boring all at the same time. It does feel like it's going for an abstract and trippy feel occasionally, but it's not fun nor is it enjoyable.
Also wtf is that cover art???
This album kicks your ass right away with "Aces High" and never drops the energy or attitude. Every song is filled with blistering melodies and riffs from both the guitars and bass. Nicko's drumming is incredible as usual, and Bruce sounds fierce and powerful. This album is such a fun and enjoyable listen it's honestly unbelievable. "Rime" might also be the greatest Maiden track of all time.
P.S. The album art might be my favourite of all time as well.
