Strap in people, this one's gonna get personal.

This album came out right as I was starting college. I was still a little bit of a Pitchfork reader (mainly for interviews and articles that had nothing to do with reviews), so I frequently saw his name pop up throughout the site. I ignored it until the following fall, sophomore year. I had resolved to find a romantic partner during my tenure at college. Despite the capitalist world largely having been reopened to the public, I still often feel as though the world is in stasis. So surprise surprise, this album found me at a time when I psychologically needed it the most; just about a week ago. The Downward ... read more

There is a lot to be said for the ability to capture a vibe so succinctly as this. The album description on Bandcamp is only five words long, but it really sells its purpose and energy.

"For listening outdoors (at dawn)"

That immediately brought to mind plenty of songs that I've described as "sounding like a sunrise," but never have I heard such a broad concept captured with such precision. It makes me think of the few times I've stayed awake to see the sun come up. It's ... read more
