I would probably choose heaven between the two of them ngl.

I mean, what hasn't been said about this album? Widely acknowledged as one of the best albums of the 90s and considered a seminal work in the dream pop genre. It even got a 10 from Pitchfork! (although I don't know if that's worth as much anymore but still). Heaven or Las Vegas is also one of my favorite albums of all time.

The LP begins with "Cherry-coloured Funk". If you've ever listened to the Twins you've probably ... read more

I didn't really enjoy this at all on first listen. Frankly, how could have I? The Seer is one of the most terrifying albums I've ever heard and one that's not scared to make you uncomfortable. Yet, I couldn't stop listening. If I turned it off one day, I'd simply come back and start from the beginning the next day. For between the waves of anxiety and fear, there's something resembling beauty, something more.

I don't really know how it happened. I never usually get uncomfortable from ... read more

I was surprised by how much I liked this album, given that I wasn’t a huge fan of their previous LP “Luciferan Towers”. But really should have I? Was I really expecting that Godspeed! You Black Emperor, a band who’s whole music is pretty much a soundtrack for the apocalypse and a big “screw you!” to the world’s governments would not get inspired by a global pandemic, during which, most governments did everything except helping people?

I went into this LP expecting I'd dislike it so I was really surprised when I actually came out of this enjoying it a bit. Yeah it's no Victorialand or Treasure and definitely not Heaven or Las Vegas but I enjoyed it more than like 2 other Cocteau Twins records. It's definitely way less serious than other Twins records, but if you take it for what it is it's really not that bad. Although at times it feels like beach music and it's definitely formulaic at times I don't think I can say it's a ... read more

After leaving their label 4AD, in 1993 the Twins released Four-Calendar Cafe. The band moved in a way more radio-friendly direction after "Heaven or Las Vegas", which in turn makes the music loose a bit of it's ethereal charm. At times even sounding more like jangle pop that dream pop. The album isn't bad though. Despite it's pretty light sound, lyrically it's one of their darkest with a lot of the songs focusing on Fraser's childhood trauma related to her abuse and her anxieties with ... read more

I don't really have a specific formula for these. I'll really just make my review whatever style I think can best describe my thoughs on a given album
