I've been a fan of all of Caribou's music, but after listening to this I think I have to say it's my favorite. It feels more IDM-oriented than some of his other releases, but it's soothing and comforting and results in a great listen.
Can't believe I'm really saying this, but I agree with p4k on this album. It has some really, really, really strong tunes that rest at the top of the band's discography, but also feels as though it is lacking objectivity and meaning in a grander scheme.
On the first listen I absolutely hated this- it just made me feel so damn uncomfortable. But with more listens you begin to appreciate their experimentation and it actually turns out to be a surprisingly great record. A very different side of the band.
With each listen, this album increases in its significance to me. It's so delicate and personal that it makes me feel in touch with the band. In my personal opinion, it's one of the greatest records of the 90s, and also one that just feels right to listen to in the summertime.
