If nothing else, all I really want from the music I listen to is for it to do something or go somewhere. That sounds like a really basic request, and it honestly is. I listen to a ton of crappy, overproduced, and uninspired pop songs purely because it’s still pop and it’s still fun. The thing is, while it may be easy to make a song that does “something,” it’s hard to make that “something” sound great and capture a distinct, exciting emotion/mood. ... read more
I’ve listened to this album several times already, but my last listen was about a year ago so I figured I’d write this time. My first introduction to The Postal Service was through the radio over half a decade ago. I can clearly remember those few transcendental minutes on the highway, though I have no memory of from where I came or where I was going. It was just another boring drive with the radio cycling through all the current indie hits that I’d grown tired of. Then Such ... read more

I’m not a huge fan of heavier genres of metal. To me, listening to extremely heavy stuff requires a certain state of mind that I never find myself to be in. I’ve listened to a couple black/death metal songs before, and it just never really worked for me. I can’t even name to you what it is I looked at before. Most of it sort of blended together or was too over the top to be worth listening to. Altars of Madness kind of clicks, though.
I love the production here, everything is ... read more
The last time I heard anything from the Foo Fighters was from a recording of the memorial concert held at Wembley Stadium. The band as a whole, and especially front runner Dave Grohl, know best how to express themselves through their music. Just watch the performance of Times Like These. Going into this, I knew that it would hit me hard, but holy shit I was not prepared. The most honest, vulnerable, and meaningful experience I’ve had listening to the Foo Fighters since songs like ... read more
