100% algorithmically generated music, and it shows. It's certainly pretty easy to recognise the structure of the "genres" it uses, with major changes happening every 16 or 32 bars, minor ones developing over 4-8. It's a massive achievement on a personal scale for someone like Fields, to develop an entire generative music entity within Reaper and VCV rack (to my knowledge), and the music it creates is very much what you'd expect from something like this. I think this album helped me recognise what I actually like in music. When an album goes out of its way to go off a totally different spectrum to how most other music plays within, it alters your experience with the album as a whole. You're probably listening to it and expecting emotional payoff, musical resolution, etc., but even right off the introductory track, you're just confused, uncomfortable probably, and likely thinking "wait, is this 3 tracks or the same one?". i think this is what you'd hear walking through konigsforst and not actually any of the other albums GAS has made. not saying i dislike the other ones, just that the tone of zauberberg feels more like it than the others. i love this one.
