Jerskin Fendrix - Once Upon A Time... In Shropshire
77

starts very strong but the last two tracks really dont do it for me. the more lush and/or chaotic tracks on here are excellent and really display Jerskin's knack for composition, but the ballads often feel like they drag on far too long and although I love Jerskin's lyricism and vocal style its not enough to save these 6+ minute piano driven tracks. when its hits it hits tho

after liking the new record so much, i decided to go back and listen to this again. its not as bad as i remember buuut still pretty rough. a lot of strange mixing decisions, sloppy performances, and missed potential. since this is overtly a concept album, i really just sat and absorbed the lyrics and music, but at least half of the storytelling is just spoken word, which feels a bit lazy to me. its cool at moments, but when overused just feels cheap imo. the performances feel intentionally ... read more

Nettspend - BAD ASS F*CKING KID

nett is to the 2020s what lil pump was to the 2010s (but also better); this is for the moment and if you don't get it then you won't get it. absolutely brilliant and hard hitting production, fun ass attitude-filled vocals, seamless sequencing. "hurr durr the lyrics suck" its fucking nettspend stop taking yourself so seriously and turn that shit up

Lil Uzi Vert - Eternal Atake 2
40

not as bad as people are saying it is, but not nearly as good as I've come to expect from uzi. Some bangers here and there but overall a lot of uninspired and obnoxious songs with no consistency or storytelling between them, unlike the first EA. Could have been decent if there wasn't so much filler and lazy bars and deliveries. -10 as well for baiting me into thinking big time rush was gonna be singing on here that would've saved it tbh.

Denzel Curry & Kenny Beats - UNLOCKED
82

punchy, concise, and fun. doesn’t die down for a second and only left me wanting more

Cime - The Cime Interdisciplinary Music Ensemble

a lot of the songs on here drag on more than they really need to, but the insane instrumental performances on it more than make up for the hour long length over only six songs. the emotion behind monty’s vocals really comes through in her desperate and screamed delivery, but the sung sections are kinda rough. this would probably be killer in a live setting, but as studio recordings the 5-10 minute extended jam sessions kinda bog down the other varied and interesting bits imo. still fire ... read more

Shortstop - shortstop

pretty cool screamo with some fun passages here and there, but a little forgettable imo. if the shorter songs were fleshed out a bit more i would have loved it even more, but it’s still solid as is

Yung Lean - Unknown Death 2002
70

definitely rough around the edges, but the charmingly amateurish vocals mixed with the ethereal and spacey production makes for an album that sounded like literally nothing else at the time, and it would never really be replicated again. some duds but so many bangers on here

Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory
96

nearly perfect in every way possible and also like insanely nostalgic to me. vocal performance is crazy, instrumentals are so vibrant, the riffs are hard as fuck, songwriting is catchy but also clever, i could go on and on this is one of my favorite albums of all time

Turnstile - GLOW ON
78

one of the most creative punk albums i've ever heard and blends together so many different styles into something completely unique and unlike anything else out there rn.

attic party - during hard times i fail slowly but surely
77

one of the best 5th wave emo releases of the year. lush production, super varied and impressive vocals, and fun catchy riffs. the first five tracks are all insanely good, but the last one kinda feels half finished and like a significant drop in quality from every other song. not bad tho in the slightest! so excited for more attic party

favs: time passes, who do you know?
least fav: the dogs eat better than me

Gorillaz - Humanz

this project has some amazing moments(z) but theres so many unecessary interludes and features that do nothing for me. with a little trimming this could be one of their best albums, but as is it's just so-so. the deluxe adds some cool songs too

Kendrick Lamar - Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers
90

possibly my favorite kendrick album for the lyricism and storytelling alone. super vulnerable and creative songwriting and we really get to hear every emotion that he has to offer. the instrumentals are super varied and fun, the features add so much to each song they're utilized on (even kodak kinda), and kendrick is at the top of his game when it comes to his delivery. there's themes and topics on here that for a while I felt like could have been approached with more tact, like the ... read more

Concrete Boys - It's Us Vol. 1

the silly attitude of the whole thing keeps it pretty entertaining, but it also has a tendency to feel repetitive and bland at times. karrahbooo and yachty CARRY but i cant stand draft day's voice lol

SeeYouSpaceCowboy - Coup de Grâce
78

their most diverse, theatrical, bombastic release to date

Descendents - Milo Goes to College
82

this album was better when i was 15 tbh. still bangs

Oolong - Oolong
77

god was this worth the wait. i almost wish they had split these tracks up into two separate bodies of work or just cut some tracks because despite the great performances, you begin to feel fatigued near the third quarter and songs start to blend together. Catchy as ever songwriting though and even though it doesn't feel like a complete front-to-back story like their debut album, it's a whole lot of fun.

Bladee - Cold Visions
80

best bladee project in years. he sounds hungry on every song, immaculate production, energy that bounces off the walls for its 30 songs and over an hour runtime, yet somehow it never feels dull and only leaves you wanting more. lean and bladee have some great songs together here too, love the sound of them over these aggressive ass rage beats. i only see this growing more on me as time goes on tbh
