LUX is the result of artists like Rosalia having such mastery over the medium of music that she can bend it to her will and present it in ways us as listeners could never expect. Something I felt while listening was that despite the music going in through my ears I felt every beat and vocal inflection in my chest. Rosalia manages to balance restraint with experimentation better than genre masters decades her senior. Bjork’s voice compliments rosalia’s in such an unexpected way and despite my dislike of them Yves short verse at the end is impactful and feels intentional. Has been a while since a song has made the hair on my arms stand up like this.
This album represents everything wrong with music. It doesn’t present an album so much as a concept to pat yourself on the back for listening to. It insists it’s good while you’re listening instead of presenting a great piece of music for the listener to judge. In other words, Musical Simulacra.
