Alright last one of the discog up this point. It's a brief 20+ minute EP. Let's see what they have. I have never heard a single second of this before so bare with my first impressions.
See No Evil:
Thank you YouTube comment for saying what I was thinking. "Leave it to Ghost to pick something out of left field, breathe new life into it, and really make it their own"
Apparently this is a cover of Television's work. So be sure to check out the original after listening to this. I'll be sure to do so myself. It's a good track that puts a nice spin on Ghost's familiar cadence. Always putting a fresh coat of paint on their sound which is always appreciated. Good start to the EP. (75)
Jesus He Knows Me:
Another fun track. I think this EP is just them putting fresh spins on their sound and so far it's working well. (70)
Hanging Around:
Cool Organ. Watch out we got a rare appearance of the Bass. Appreciate it while we got it. Yeah we got another enjoyable Ghost track for those that want more of them with something fresh but familiar enough. This EP really isn't pushing any borders but implementing some cool ideas to familiar sounds and melodies. And I am all for it! Everything is hitting as intended. (70)
Phantom of the Opera:
Good play, good movie from what I remember watching it as a ten year old. Need to rewatch it someday to see how it holds up. As for the ghost song? It's ok to good. The weakest offering of the bunch so far. The instrumental is great as always l just don't find it too impressionable long term. Got the classic metal feel which is always fun but nothing all that distinct. (65)
We Don't Need Another Hero:
So everything in this EP are covers gotcha. This Tina Turner cover is solid but I honestly prefer the original. It's ok but not quite up to snuff for me. (60)
Overall not bad of a filler EP with some experiments of fitting their sound to the covers. They Will probably took some of what they like out of this in a future album of theirs which I am excited to listen whenever they release it.
So I just finished Ghost's Discography up to this point and what do I think overall? They are a quality band with a distinct voice in the rock/metal sphere and are always evolving their sound and pushing boundaries. Sure they can be a bit too cheesy for some, but you can't deny that they got some damn good music that everyone can get a little something out of with how accessible their sound is. Am I a fan? Yeah, I like a lot of what they offer. Some may not be for me and that's ok. They have a proven track record and they haven't truly missed yet. So with whatever they have planned next I will be right there more than happy to engage with whatever they release.
