very bleak (positive)
probably one of the greatest DSBM albums I've listened to, its hard to pinpoint exactly what makes just so good, but the vocals and guitars are definitely the best part. the riffs throughout this shift between dark and gloomy, to manic frenzies that almost sound like screams. The vocals differ slightly from your garden variety DSBM, straying off the path of simply shrieking, but instead doing something more akin to wailing, crying, and gasping. While definitely a bit scrambled and all over the place, Pulver still succeeds in being one of the more unique DSBM albums I've heard, and while not my favorite, it still contributes vastly to the genre. At times, this album sounds more like a compilation instead of a fully put together album, as the arrangement of some tracks honestly makes no sense to me. In the scope of BSOD’s projects, Trollheim may seem to fall more on the insignificant and obscure side, especially compared to Grausemkeit, but I believe Im Heidenwald Elfgaards & Ensomhet is not only Andreas Bettinger’s best record, but one of the very best dungeon synth records. Very Good :)
Some of the best Midwest emo isn’t even from the Midwest. It’s from New York. With his project Wet Sleeves, New York artist Sam Willie manages to gather together all the components and feelings that make the genre so special. The opening track "Abandoned Scriptures” immediately starts this record off with a beautiful and gloomy riff.
