J. Cole imo has never been in the goat discussion. He's always been too inconsistent with his music to really make him stand out to goat contenders like Kendrick Lamar who has an unbelievably tight discography that challenges the best to ever do it. Joji tried his best to do a drake impression and became wallpaper for good instumentals with very little to say and even less that we even give a fuck about. A couple peaks, but most of the album is mid/sounds samey.
Unfortunately I am not able to give this album a good rating. While I have loved Quadeca'a progression in artistry and he has made some genuinely fantastic music, he overcooked this album everywhere. For a more cerebral album he really just doesn't let you sit with anything for very long and layers so many sounds that even when he gets to good Ideas, they are so fleeting that the next bad or dissonant sound blind sides you and takes you out of any given song.
