I can appreciate the dark aesthetic and political content Gaika is reaching for on this album, but somehow the lyrical and sonic components don't come together to be greater than the sum of its parts. I found it difficult to remain engaged with the album during its hour long run time, mostly due to the lackluster vocal work, despite how moving its production and lyrics can be at times.
HIGHLIGHTS: RUBY, BLACK EMPIRE (KILLMONGER RIDDIM), GRIP, IMMIGRANT SONS (PESOS & GAS)
