There is not a single redeemable aspect of this album. Annoying flow after annoying flow and boring hooks, not to even mention the dreadful lyrical content. The first 45 minutes are just Em bitching and complaining that he can't say slurs and openly be homophobic and transphobic while saying slurs and being openly homophobic and transphobic. Also, the fixation on Caitlyn Jenner is strange considering she's not even a trans woman that 'gen-z' would even want to go to bat for, ... read more
started strong. ended strong. lost me somewhere in the middle

much more consistent on relisten. like ida is one of the best songs of the year thus far
Incredibly spacious production, but at times maybe a bit too much space. omar dances a fine line here between atmosphere and plain boredom and a couple of times definitely finds himself on the wrong side of that spectrum. Seemingly all contemporary r&b artists will attract heir share of frank ocean comparisons but this time it's definitely justified. I don't think it's bad, and i do think it's a step up from his previous album but there's nothing particularly ... read more
maybe whatever she reinvents herself to be for her next album will be interesting
boring. nothing particularly interesting nor seemingly well thought out. should have taken a little more with this one i think
the songs are all the same really but there are some fun/funny moments and bars. thanks step dad
the chemistry on this is unreal. this is the kind of album only getting better with age
when two queens come together to maximize their joint slay
is it incredibly derivative of previously established genre staples? yep. does it have a bunch of vocals that annoy the piss out of me? you betcha. but is all of that accompanied by a groove? for sure. I don't love it, probably don't even like it, but it made me move and that's the goal here so i have to give it props there.
favs: liftoff, that's where you've got my heart stuck in
least fav: disco soul
so so so many great ideas here. and overall it is a enjoyable listening experience. the production sounds good and i particularly love the vocals. however... despite the limited run time, there are several instances in which these songs overstay their welcome, often with an outro that sounds good but just lasts far too long with no development. still will come back to this, and really excited for whatever comes after :D
favs: you're a star, omlette, 2U
it's just okay. not reinventing the wheel and there's a couple of tracks i do like, but most of it feels like filler especially considering how great of a song 'carrots on strings' is. if the whole album was as willing to experiment and try as that song, I would probably like it more, but alas this is a bit too safe for me.
this shit is fun. that's it. it never takes it self serious nor does it try and be anything it's not. sometimes it gets just a tad too unserious for me, but it's still a brilliantly stupid album
On an album that was slated to be Don's most experimental yet, mr. toliver continues his run of boring and uninspired r&b over bland trap beats. This time around there are a couple of guitars in the mix and one or two club songs that are only serviceable for an average chorus. Goofy and lame beats, annoying and boring vocal deliveries, poor lyricism, so just about everything we have come to expect from a don toliver album.
A concept album, following the lead singer through the stages of grief, accompanied by passable lyrics but impossibly unremarkable music. Determined to not be a forgettable stomp and holler band, judah & the lion take elements that feel ripped right from imagine dragons and twenty one pilots to create an album that delievers what feels like the least sincere and engaging look into a person possible.
beautiful vocals with a haunting and enticing atmosphere. incredible art pop
