Indietronica sensations, Foster The People, are back with their fourth studio album, and their first in 7 years. It's bright, it's upbeat, it's everything you would come to expect from a Foster record, but unfortunately it's just about everything you would come to expect from a Foster record. Paradise State of Mind does not break any barriers nor blow any minds, but it provides an enjoyable enough experience, some of the songs moreso than others, but throughout there are ... read more
Why is this the album that he insists on having clean vocals? He's taken every step possible to fit in completely with this cast of characters that made the album. boring.
I listened to this a couple times, mostly because it seemed like my brain really wanted to click with it, but there was just something missing. Definitely moments that I was a fan of, Opiate in general is a good song and my favorite of the bunch and the first half of Day Star is also nice. My main issues with this ep come when the sound gets heavier. On the title track and opiate, they create these great builds into a powerful chorus, but all this does for me is highlight the shortcomings of ... read more
Sophomore album from Philly trio, Carly Cosgrove, is loaded front to back with emo bangers. Following the release of their debut, i was honestly worried that they would be pigeon-holed due to the well defined sound they already seemed to have on a well received first album. However, following the release of the lead single 'You Old Dog' my fears were calmed as the band managed to find a sound that honestly sounds more similar to their first ep, but with impressively mature lyricism ... read more
isis, girl, i believed in you. i been a munch since day 1. but no longer will your wiley charm and bodacious curves blind me to the truth. you made a mid album and the best verse was from Gunna of all people. please go find yourself and come back with a new producer and no more fucking poop bars please
Brother duo is back with another classic album. The Lemon Twigs have taken their psych rock/jangle pop sound and have absolutely dialed it in for this album. Lyrics detailing fears and anxieties and yearning, juxtaposed by a bright and lively atmosphere. The bits of flaming lips esque synth work on cuts such as the title track keep this album from going stale during it's brief runtime. Its fun, its light, and it's a good time all around
A quick debut ep from singer songwriter Autumn Luz. In just 20 minutes, Luz manages to put forward a handful of sounds, all punctuated with her impressive vocal chops. The first track, Bone Marrow, features some r&b elements and is a great opener, and then moves into the more indie rock inspired cut, Pang. This is a bundle of fun and keeps you on your toes.
the grass is green, the sun is shining, and you just finished chorin for the day. you grab a cold miller lite from the garage fridge and sit on your front porch in the old wooden rocker. you turn on the radio and the sounds of this album blend with the whistles of nature. life is good.
a solid debut and has the potential to be a real springboard into the alt pop scene. emei has a great voice and sure knows how to make a catchy hook. with a bit more experimentation and unique production, i could see her next project making waves. I'll wait with crossed fingers
fav songs: 711, scatterbrain, dear emily
least fav: picky
a short and sweet americana ep. songs about drinkin. songs about lovin. can't go wrong
this is so pretty. jazzy, poppy, just all around great. love the spoken passages, especially Betelgeuse. makes me want to sit in a meadow at sundown and just exist. every song feels beautifully crafted and well thought out, big fan.
favs: Devotion, Aurora IL, Betelgeuse, Petco
Least: n/a
This rocked my socks off for the first 20 minutes. but the sound starts to wear on me after. wish there was a little more experimentation throughout but all in all it's not bad.
favs: red, chromatically declining me
least: the stupidest boy
what. the. fuck. 1974... this shit came out in 1974 !?!?!? i swear if this dropped tomorrow it would be heralded as groundbreaking and revolutionary. This is easily one of the greatest psych pop albums i have ever heard and has completely blown my mind. I was not mad on the vocals at the beginning of the opener, but my god do they fit beautifully throughout the course of the record. I love everything about this. The horns, omg the horns, on the first track and especially on 'La nuova ... read more
It's dark and it's spacious with plenty of texture and ambiance, but it misses substance at points. The vocals are generally positive with a handful of moments that miss the mark for me, but generally they don't take away from the experience at worst and at best they are a real highlight. This really borders on the line of being an immersive experience and losing me along the way of a trip with seemingly no real destination. A few real stand out songs make for an overall ... read more
