This album starts off strong and with the same sound we know and have loved from Empire of the Sun. It's synth filled, bouncy, and funky. Definitely something that will have you grooving and feeling euphoric.
That said, it takes a sharp turn towards the end of the album at the song 'Rhapsodize', although it could be questioned if it starts earlier at 'Wild World', where the sounds start to become experimental and have you questioning if you're tripping. ... read more

There’s nothing remotely redeemable here on this track and it’s an honest-to-god embarrassment for women’s empowerment. Woooof.

‘Charm’ is an exemplary compilation of lush instrumentals and soft, smooth vocals. While the album felt like one continuous song, this soft-rock / bedroom-pop was an easy listen and slightly nostalgic with its more 70s vintage instrumentation. Clairo showcases her knowledge on the power of chords to emphasize emotion while also utilizing whimsical beats and tight compositions to nail home certain lyrics. After much anticipation due to my love of her debut album, this production sadly felt flat, and dare I say uninspired. From the jump, the lyrics were repetitive and basic - which would normally be okay IF the instrumentation and melodies were varied and interesting to carry, ahem sorry I mean support, them. Unfortunately, there weren’t many songs on the album that I’ll be adding to playlists or queues as the whole project was unremarkable in my mind.
