This album was my introduction to Interpol so I’m a bit nostalgic for it. I think it holds up well enough to their debut with not much changing sonically. I bought the album on vinyl after only hearing the song Evil, I loved the song and wanted more of it. Upon my first listen the only other song that clicked was C’mere, it was a real standout on an album full of samey tracks. The record took me a couple spins to fully appreciate, I’m glad I bought a physical copy of this record as it forced me to relisten. Otherwise I probably wouldn’t have thought twice of this album had I just streamed it.
Next Exit is an amazing opener with chilling synths and haunting vocals perfectly setting the tone for this record. Take You on a Cruise is one of my favorites, I love the Bridge of this song. I love the winding guitar intro to Not Even Jail, the rest of track can be a bit mundane but the amazing bassline carries the song. Length of Love is another great song with a chilling chorus. The album falls a little flat at the finish though, A Time to Be So Small is the weakest on the album a slower song that seems to drag.
