kinda amazing. like the first time i heard it i couldnt get past the unhinged production and delivery of lines in the first portion of the EP, but, upon returning (after listening to a bunch of weird memphis rap shit) it clicked with me in a way it didnt before. i absolutely adore the production throughout, and the lyricism is amazing. it especially shines with the storytelling in the middle portion of the track that really contrasts the braggadocious horrorcore-style lyrics of the first ... read more
honestly fucking amazing album. like, on first listen, I thought it was good but not too surprising, but idk what went wrong bc after revisiting the album it suddenly clicked and became amazing for me. i love the production all throughout (although i dont adore one or two songs' beats), pharell absolutely killed it.
Favorite Song: So Be It
Least Favorite Song: P.O.V.
im not super familiar with cloud rap, but i absolutely adored the dreamy, ethereal production across this album and rough sampling and mixing. while i dont think the lyrics were anything special, i think the production really stole the show and made this one of the most enjoyable and novel hip hop projects ive listened to in a long time.
Favorite Track: Hydr6c0don$ or Daydre4m
Least Favorite Track (not counting the intro): Paint on Me Blunt Free$tyle
fucking perfect. easily the most beautiful album ive ever heard, i cant believe this is a single-session live peformance.
Favorite Track: LONG SEASON (obviously, might just be the best song of all time imo)
Least Favorite Track: Oh Slime (if you put a gun to my head and made me pick one)
ive never really listened to any arctic monkeys before, so i went in expecting some basic pop rock stuff, and, honestly, thats pretty much what i got. it was pretty good, i dont think i disliked it, but it had very clear flaws. the production was pretty mediocre, the whole lp has issues with compression, and some tracks (namely I Want It All) were pretty badly mixed. on the positive side, there were quite a few catchy (if simple) melodies and instrumentals and fun lyrics on this album. overall, ... read more
my first ever experinece with the beatles, and they definitely lived up to the hype. amazingly inventive instrumentation throughout, emotionally evocative lyricism, and an ending medly that's one of the best single pieces of music ive ever heard. i loved every second of this album.
Favorite Track: I Want You (She's So Heavy)
Least Favorite Track (not counting Her Majesty): Polythene Pam
probably the greatest concept album of all time. the "a short film by kendrick lamar" on the cover really doesnt overstate it. it feels like a movie for your ears, with some of the best musical storytelling of any album ever. SAMIDOT might just be the best rap song ever made, and its placement as the emotional climax of the story only elevates the track.
Favorite Track: Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst
Least Favorite Track: Real
a jawdroppingly good artistic experience that delves into some of the darkest depths of rock bottom. the way danny uses his unique vocal style (which in any other context would come off funny) to convey the sheer mania of his pain, along with the amazing experimental production that perfectly captures the emotions of each track, creates a musical experience unlike any other
Favorite Track: Ain't It Funny
Least Favorite Track: From The Ground
amazing post rock album. what it sacrifices in track-to-track cohesiveness it more than makes up for with the evocative soundscapes and powerful artistry on display in each track. the 2.5 hour length is pretty daunting (and i did start to lose focus on the back half because i listened to it at like 1am and i was tired), but its an amazing experience.
An edit: i completely disagree with my original assessment of the album not being cohesive, its really well put together and it flows amazingly, ... read more
was my first ever experience with post-rock, needless to say it was an amazing one. breathtaking soundscapes and unusual instrumentation give it a super cool post-apocalyptic feel. the few audio fragments that have spoken words perfectly set a tone for each part of the album and convey the message of the album.
Favorite Track: Sleep
Least Favorite Track: Like Antennas To Heaven....
it really doesnt need restating how amazing this album is. if i had to pick a best album of all time, it would be this one. from the sequencing of tracks, to the amazing production, to the dense, layered, and thematically cohesive lyricism, to the various displays and allusions to a wide array of black sounds and musical styles, the album is as close to perfection as any.
