There is something special about people with “ordinary” jobs releasing art.
its such a cozy and warm listen!! girlie is depressed but hey this is Mitski
Probably the most predictable album from Renaissance(before Azure d’Or), however Running Hard and Mother Russia are really strong tracks with great story telling from the latter.
Although I prefer the newer band structure with Annie Haslam, this album is excellent. The sound and vocals remind me of Genesis a lot (which is only a good thing)
Annie Haslam delivers ethereal vocals as usual. This album has a more eerie feel, which is a bit different from their other works. Favorite tracks:
-The Sisters
-Touching Once (Is So Hard To Keep)
Gets better with every listen, but instrumentally and lyrically is not as strong as her other albums.
Its so iconic I would give it around 80 but 66(6) just needs to happen. You listen to them once and they never leave your mind.
Before listening to this album you have to realize that it was released after a streak of misses(Street Angel,The Other Side Of The Mirror, ect…) so whipping up this masterpiece at 50+ yrs is an incredible feat. Now the album starts with probably her finest songs after Bella Donna (the title track, Sorcerer, Planets Of The Universe). I really wish this energy would’ve lasted, however the middle of the album falls into generic country slop and it only picks back up at Bombay ... read more
First tracks start the album off with a bang and the later ones fall into generic arena rock
The whole listen is so fun. The opener reminds me of a spy movie and OH MY GOD the trilogy of Donovan Ellington has been completed. 70’s prog revived and done right.
An album composed and written solely by Rosalie Cunningham?? Such a good send off for the band and a promising start for her solo career.
Banger after banger after banger after ehhh after banger after ehh. Despite that, for 2009 this holds up incredibly well.
This album gave us Atomic and that in of itself should make it a perfect 100. However the first half of the album remains quite generic(but still great listens) and the last few songs have a more avant-garde feel which makes it a bit unbalanced.
I am completely biased in rating this, however this album was an introduction to the future career of the immensely talented Rosalie Cunningham. A great prog piece with gothic vocals and satisfying instrumentals.
