Detour by Kim Petras
WOW! I normally am not tapped-in to Kim Petras's new releases, but I figure why not listen to this project since I was familiar with the struggle she had with her label regarding the release of this album. After listening I am so blown away by Kim and I find this sound to be so fitting for her and this new journey she's on. I think everyone was tired of that bimbo/slut persona she had for so long, and to finally see her tapping in to something with slightly more ... read more

Review: This album outside the 2-3 standout tracks sounds like it would be perfect in a department store soundtrack. I didn't have much faith listening to this album as recent Demi Lovato albums have all been relatively bad to her previous standard, but I still left a ... read more

This EP was a fun listen. I haven't delved into Rachel Chinouriri's music as I found it to not really be my thing from the small snippets I heard, which I would say still stands true, however the songs on this EP are quite fun. I felt the first two songs were much more enjoyable compared to the later half of the album, it felt a bit unfinished, I was left wanting a bit more considering the fun and peppy production in the beginning of the album, I wasn't a huge fan of the stripped ... read more
In honor of Transgender Day of Visibility, I figure I would share my thoughts here. As a transgender woman, this album is so very important to our existence as a community. It represents our passion, creativity, emotions, and our empowerment. I would absolutely check this project out if you find yourself with some spare time.
This is a Shygirl project that I don't see myself going to very often in her discography other than O, so re-listening to this was a really enjoyable experience. This EP is so jarring, but in the perfect way. This dark sound suits her voice amazingly, and I hope to see this version of Shygirl combined with the polish she's been able to have over the past few years.
This is by far Shygirl's best project. It is such a fun and dynamic listen and extremely enjoyable. I listen to her newer work and yearn for this sound again, it's so cool and something we don't hear very often. My only critique is I wish there was a tad more variety in the sounds on this album, they tend to mesh together and I sometime have trouble distinguishing which song is which despite hearing this EP many times. Overall, a MUST listen for music fans.
This album is truly a masterpiece, it is simply magical. I heard this album for the first time two years ago and still listening to it years later I remain in love with the songs and fall in love with a new track each listen. The opening and ending of the album are absolutely amazing, and make up for some lackluster songs in the middle of the album. Overall, I suggest this album to anyone willing to give it a listen and expand their music taste.
Favorites: Woe, Come For Me, Honey, Wildfire
I found Yseult when she released two singles for this album prior to the release, SUICIDE and BITCH YOU COULD NEVER. After hearing those I fell in love because they were totally up my alley. After hearing this album I was left a bit conflicted. I do enjoy the tracks on this album, but I do wish there was a bit more cohesion. A point could be made that the inorganization is purposeful and has meaning, but to be it doesn't seem that way, it seems like an oversight. Overall, I do like a lot ... read more
Wow, what can I even say. Out of Shark Brain and Dolphin I would say this is the superior of the two. Both Eartheater and Shygirl mesh wonderfully in this track. This is the dark sound I have been wanting to hear from Shygirl, that pre Club Shy era sound, and I think we get a glimpse of that here.
This song is truly magical. The juxtaposition of the beginning versus the end of the song kept me intrigued, not wanting the song to end. Both Eartheater and Shygirl sound magical and I love them together. I wish we heard more of Shygirl and Eartheater together, as their parts felt a bit disjointed, other than that I loved this track.
The ambiance on this track is killer. Even songs that I was not so fond of like Crickets and Exit Flatland, both still had me hooked due to the pure trance I had while listening. This album is extremely captivating to those hoping to hear a different and unique sound. It's no surprise that Bitch Bites Dog is my favorite track as it seems to be everyone's, but it's obvious that that song is extremely well made and I would love to hear similar from Cecile in the future.
Overall I found this project really good. My only knowledge of Cecile prior is Bitch Bites Dog and I would say this held up to my expectation. I wasn't the fondest of Red Brick and The Pearl but I loved the rest of this project. I'm excited to hear new things Cecile has been working on, hopefully we'll see a full length release from her soon.
Wow, I was blown away! I skipped 3 albums in her discography to listen to this and I'm somewhat scared to go back just in case they don't compare, but WOWWWW this album is so good. One of the best rap albums I've listened to, period. There is for sure a swing from the earlier songs in the album being dark and grungier to later in the album being softer and mellow. The album felt super cohesive and flowed amazingly. I feel like songs on this album are gonna grow on me, so I ... read more
I was happy to hear this. It's very reminiscent of GFOTYbucks and that's what I love. It has a somewhat nostalgic feel yet still is futuristic and daring. his was a fun listen and I am always hooked onto whatever song I hear from GFOTY, good or bad.
I feel like I don't have a whole lot to say, my rankings are based in how much I vibe with the production. I haven't really delved into Arca's discography, but I do know I like her rap and reggaetón inspired songs, even though I know they're her more popular tracks. None of them are bad, I would say they're above average on first impression. I think this album has a lot of growth potential the more I listen.
Overall this album was okay, I felt the beginning was really strong and fell a bit mediocre as the album progressed. From what I've heard in passing I find her really talented so I think my anticipation was set really high. For a debut, I'm not mad and it has me intrigued to hear the rest of her music.
