Remember how I said Starz was the best drain gang album I’ve listened to? Welp, I was wrong.
Ecco2k’s e is an album I have been wanting to come back to for a while. It was one of my first reviews on the site, and I gave it a 7, never returning to it until now. I realize how much of a mistake that was. E is full of amazing textures, vocals, and an absolutely beautiful atmosphere that I completely forgot about. ECCO2K’s voice sounds super fragile and on the brink of breaking, which works perfectly with Whitearmor’s lush, gorgeous, and sometimes hard hitting instrumentals. To me this album has a story, which I can’t really describe, as it to me sounds like AAA Powerline is the introduction to a serene place where it takes place, and on Peroxide, we are introduced to ECCO, a fun but mentally flawed character who is enjoying himself. However, as the album goes on, we see ECCO deteriorate more and more mentally, with Bliss Fields foreshadowing his doom, saying, “I feel like I’m flying and drowning at the same time, like I’m being pulled from below and above.” He wants to show his happy persona but still has extreme sadness and mental issues, until he finally breaks on Blue Eyes, with screams and distorted noise, as the darkness in his mind takes over, leading to his doom. It’s quite dark, and I honestly love it. But this album is still fun, with Peroxide being an absolute banger. But yea, drain gang for life, and this album for sure took me by surprise on second listen, growing on me a ton.
Best tracks: AAA Powerline, Peroxide, Fragile, Fruit Bleed Juice, Cc (current fav), Calcium, Sugar & Diesel, Security!, Time, Blue Eyes
Least fav: Bliss Fields I guess
