I have no idea how he made these kinds of lyrics go hard, but somehow, the king pulled it off.
Have you ever seen a swiftie scream so much that she swallowed her cigarette? Powerful Stuff
I heard this at my college's "Tortuted Poet's Department Power Hour." I had more fun playing pool in the rec room. I lost every game.
Listened to this once randomly and now it's my favorite song of all time. It also helped me to realize that I'm bi, but that is besides the point
Lenker's voice feels like a mother sitting next to your bed, singing you a song her father knew. Her tone and emotion are reserved, but the level of pain and heartbreak that she conveys is far beyond most vocalists today. All of the instrumentals and melodies are effortlessly beautiful, and the stripped-back ascetic helps to highlight the wonderful lyrics. The only main issue with this record is that not every song reaches the heights of Sadness as a Gift or Real House, and whenever I fall out ... read more
You know it's going be good when they self-advertise on the Car Seat Headrest subreddit
Whenever I listen to Teens of Denial, I compare it to Twin Fantasy in my brain. Twin Fantasy was my first and favorite record of theirs for a long time, so I saw this album as a less interesting companion because I was very lukewarm to it on my first listen. But every time I sit down and give this lengthy album my attention, it just gets better and better. There is not a single track below a 9 (Joe Goes to School doesn't count; I wish it weren't on here), and every song hits as hard as the best ... read more
An extremely guilty pleasure of mine. It feels kind of cheesy at points, and J's nerdy emo vocals do not help with that, but they do bring a lot of emotion to their performance. I just wish plastic death was up to this same level of consistency.
Jesus Christ.
I've never been a huge Nirvana fan; I'd only ever heard their popular stuff and thought it was just okay. I'm just now listening to their albums front to back, and holy shit, was it by far their most impactful. It's a cry of pain and anger so powerful that I was extremely uneasy at multiple points of the record. Cobain's vocals are so naked and harsh that it feels like he is right in front of you, screaming his heart out. Every track on here contributes to such a powerful ... read more
This album is painfully straight, and as a not-straight person, it is an interesting perspective. The lyrics here are so raw and unfiltered that they end up being cringeworthy at a lot of points, but Rivers's nerdy voice and the awesome compositions behind it work so well. Every track on here is very relatable and just throws frustration of all kinds right at the listener in a way that no other Weezer record does. It's honestly shocking to me that they were able to make such real and raw ... read more
Gave this a listen out of nostalgia for Ride and Stressed Out, and realized that those two tracks, and the second of goner are the only bits worth listening too. It's top 50 music about how much top 50 music sucks. Its radio filler without any substance. Frosting without cake.
It feels like the band just threw together a bunch of songs they had left out of other projects or left on the drawing-room floor. But it is Radiohead, so even their afterthoughts are pretty good.
(This is going to be pretentious, but I don't know how else to describe this) Kid A is not an album that you can add to a playlist or put on in the background. It is an album that demands your full attention but deeply rewards you for it. It feels like a dream sequence, flitting through euphoria and nightmare with and within every track. I listened to this for the first time while meditating, and it brought me to a place of serenity (and terror) that I have never experienced sober. I don't know ... read more
On my first two listens, I thought it was good, but I didn't really get the hype. Then I went on Twitter, got mad, and listened again.
This is one of the best albums ever made.
