I am astonished.
I have never really been familiar with Black Thought, or even the roots as a collective, but I had seen this album placed very high on lists for the best rap albums (or albums in general) of 2022, or even this entire decade. And frankly, I never really shared such a sentiment. When I had first listened to it, I never liked Black Thought's rapping. I knew he was an outstanding lyricist, but he just never seemed too good of a "rapper" to be.
Yeah, no, he is an outstanding rapper.
