What the fuck did I just hear.
This is my new favorite album of all time, and it isn't even close. I just recently listened to In Rainbows by Radiohead, and I did not like it as much as I expected - so I decided to check out OK Computer, expecting similar results.
I did not expect to hear an album that sounds like it was made in the 3000's, when it was actually released back in 1997. Honestly, there really isn't much I can say about this apart from just how fucking insane it is. Airbag is an insane opener, where he literally turns almost dying in a car crash into some euphoric and other-worldly experience where he talks about how he will perceive life differently due to being "born again" after the event.
Paranoid Android has some of the most other-worldly and glitchy production I have ever heard. It does such a fantastic job at encapsulating the feeling of just pure and raw terror. The lyrics are clearly not meant to be taken literally, but it is a perfect representation of what I'd imagine a slow decent into madness would sound like. It all conglutinates into a final part where Thom's voice is literally breaking. It is those 'imperfections' that ever-so-clearly just why human art is so fucking amazing and priceless. When I first heard this song, I sat in silence for minutes before replaying it four times.
Let Down is just a banger of a song. Not much else to say. Again, insane fucking production and one of my personal favorites off of the entire album.
Climbing Up the Walls will be the final track I discuss, but only because of the raw feeling of terror it gave me. That song singlehandedly perfectly captured the innate fear I felt as a child when I was in the dark alone - to the point where I was terrified to just walk through the dark living room to get water from the kitchen. The vocal effects also make it sound like Thom is the one inflicting the fear on others, not the one actually feeling it.
Overall, this album is fucking flawless. The only problem would be with Fitter Happier, but guess what? It is an interlude that does its job, so I don't give a fuck :D
My thoughts have changed. This album is NOT perfect, as there are some flaws. SHA, Electioneering, etc. However, I honestly am starting to prefer In Rainbows to this ngl. So both are like a 94/95 out of 100
