Unknown Memory captures me more than any other project from Yung Lean I've listened to, as while it may not cut as deep as an album like Stranger, it's got some crazy addictive beats and some pretty infectious songwriting which more than make up for it's lack of subtle depth. Yeah, it's a bit of it's time, but I'd say this release is more like a time capsule than it is a poorly aged outing, as while the synthy, muddy production and the laid-back vocal delivery may take you back, the emotions you feel while listening to this album are very current. It's a project about as numb as Lean probably was while making it, and yet, the jaded confidence and sincerity that irradiates from this album are both oddly entrancing. I do think there are a couple weaker songs early on which break the trance, and to say that outro was not easy on the ears would be putting it lightly. However, as a whole, I don't see too many flaws in Unknown Memory.
