Black Thought & Danger Mouse - Cheat Codes

Cheat Codes is a 38-minute bar fest with some incredible beats and a mind-blowingly stacked feature list. Even if you aren’t familiar with his work, just from this album you can tell Black Thought is on another level in terms of writing. He’s just incredible on here. Though, to be honest, this project wouldn’t be complete without Danger Mouse’s fuzzy boom bap beats. The sampling is spectacular, and those drums especially tickle all the right spots in my brain. The thing is, not only are the performances on this project phenomenal, most of this album in general is. It’s just consistently one great song after another. Sure, there’s definitely some more forgettable points where things dry up a bit, especially on the backend, but those moments are still rare. If there’s six minutes of “meh” on here, there’s still 32 minutes of awesomeness. That’s a pretty good ratio.

Best Tracks: The Darkest Part, Because, Aquamarine
Weakest Track: Identical Deaths
